EGD
Hi all,
I just completed all my tests and was approved by all the powers that be.I was wondering what is this EGD test I've been reading about here I've never heard of it.Am I missing something. As you can all well guess I'm on pins and needles waiting for approval and a date. Please let me know...have I forgotten something along the way?
Thanks,
Denise
Hi Denise,
An EGD is when they do a scope to check the condition of your stomach and esophagus (sp?) Some have this done pre-op and some don't. I'm not sure what the deciding factors on that are. The doctor's office would have notified you that you are having one and would have scheduled it because it's done at the hospital. If you are unsure if something was overlooked you can always call and ask them about it.
If you do have to have one it's no big deal. Only takes about 10 minutes and you are sedated. It was one of the easiest tests I had done. lol @ the pins and needles waiting for a date and approval, it can be nerve shattering for sure. It will be here before you know it and you'll be on your way.
Good luck!
Linda
Hi Denise, I never was required to have an EGD pre-surgery. Not sure why. But I did have one in March. My stoma had constricted and Dr. Irgau was able to stretch it when he did the EGD. Unfortunatley I was awake for the procedure. My BP was only 110/40. They couldn't give me any of those drugs that put you out. But the good news is I was off both BP meds and could now eat more than 1 teaspoon of food and keep it down. The procedure itself only took about 10 minutes. I watched the clock on the wall. If in doubt, call the DR.'s office and they'll let you know if it is required. Good luck on a surgery date. Keep us posted. ((HUGS)) Elissa
