Insurance woes

Mel, Eileen and everyone else who has experienced insurance woes, Hang in there. It pays to look very closely at details of your policy. REAL CLOSELY. Sometimes the "pencil-pushers" who work at those ?!!!AGH!?!!! insurance companies (sorry if I offended anyone who works for an insurance company) have no idea what they are doing. If you can point out any details that seem in your favor (such as your primary care dr. can document weight-related health problems which is what mine did) sometimes that'll do the trick! I'm lucky that I was approved (via a letter from BC/BC Personal Choice PPO..Dr. Iragu can do surgery at Christiana Hospital on such and such date and so on...) on my first try. But with all the confusion I'm hearing, do the companies ever go back on their approvals? I'm approved and scheduled for an endoscope but I can't get a confirmed surgery date from the surgeons. Yet I see a number of patients getting down to the wire (like the day before surgery) only to be denied. I can't even imagine how dissapointing that must be -- I would be off the wall. Should I worry? My good thoughts and prayers are with all! Kit

Mel, I am SO sorry that the insurance people are still torturing you! It's a crime that they can get away with it but I guess that's "big business" and we, unfortunately, have to live by their "rules." IT STINKS! It's got to be frustrating for you and your family and you are right, how do they expect someone to make plans with work, family travel, etc.at the last minute???? You would almost think the insurance company would be happy to wrap up (confirm) "elective" surgery like this ASAP ahead of time when there are so many last minute emergencies out there. Keep strong! I will keep you in my good thoughts and prayers. I hope your surgery goes as you expect. I cannot believe that it can get to the night before and get cancelled, but the more I read this board, I see it happens. To everyone out there in this situation, you are in my prayers.
