Just Curious

I am very interested in the Lap Band I haven't read much on people that have went thru this procedure. I have Aetna Insurance what I was curious about is how long normally is this whole process (ie getting appointment testing and then finally the date for the surgery) Im in Delaware and Im thinking about calling Dr Wynn. My fiance works with a guy that said his wife went to her and she is great amoung all the other praises I have read about her on this web site. Thanks

Dr. Wynn Rocks. I don't know much abotu the lap band except to say that I know she does it. You might as well call today for your consultation with her. You will have plenty of time to think abotu it - I think they are scheduling consults into the Fall at this time. In the mean time Research, research, research. This is a life altering decision. One that most of us are very happy about, but life altering none the less. Learn all you can.

Yeah I have been reading up like crazy on it My finace tells me Im addicted to this site since Im on here all the time. I will most likely call tomorrow if I can get a quiet minute away from my two little angels (haha angels thats an understatment). My first thought was the gastric byspass then I changed my mind to the lap band cause it just sounds less hmmm whats the word "scary" I guess in my eyes. But then again I know of a few people that have had gastric bypass and they have had no problems and of course all the success stories on this site. I guess I will make my final decision once I get to see Dr Wynn and have her explain it better to me.

Welcome to the site. We are here for you and support you in whatever decision is right for you. Please research and fill yourself full of knowledge of the lap and the gastric bypass. I know that most insurances don't cover the lap band yet, it is to new. But I would call Dr. Wynn's office and make a consultation appointment. She would be the best one to help you make the decision which is right for you. I know that it takes about 3-6 months to get in for just a consultation and then another 6 plus months to do all the pre-op testing and appointments. It is not something that is to be taken lightly. I have a friend that had the lap band by Dr Wynn... Her profile is under Karen From DE. I think she's a bit discouraged on how slow you lose compared to the gastric bypass.

Hi Eileen, I had the lap band by Dr. Wynn on June 10, 2003...........Originally I had 80 lbs to lose. I have lost 40 so far (50%). There are days where I get frustrated because my bypass friends seemed to lose quicker, but the reality is that most of them had more to lose than I did and people do lose faster INITIALLY with the bypass......I read on one of these sites that if you took two people with identical starting weights, the bypass patient would lose quicker, but at 18 mos out both the lap band and the bypass patient would have lost about the same......I look at it this way, I have lost 50% of my excess weight in 10 mos. When my loss slows down, I can go in to Dr. Wynn and get an adjustment. When I feel I can eat too much, I can get an adjustment. This was the right choice for ME. It may or may not be the right one for YOU! I researched for over a year on every web site I could find. I was addicted and spent many hours on this web site reading about the bypass patients. I initially was going to do the bypass but Dr. Wynn strongly suggested the band because I was a "light weight", and because I had a previous stomach surgery, and also because I was a self-pay!! I think I was her 7th lap band patient, but I would have gladly been her first. I trust her that much............ Also check out [email protected]. There are many people on that site that lost between 75% and 100% of their excess weight within their first year. There are patients there that have had their band for about 5 years and have kept off the weight. One lady starting gaining a little three years out, went in to her doc for a fill and knocked it right back off!!! It truly depends on how well you follow the lap band rules.......I am not as strict with the rules as I could be, but I am a size 14 down from a size 20, I'm breathing like a normal person and I didn't lose my hair or anything like that. Wow 3-6 months I didn't realize so many people were interested in this surgery in the area. But then again I never thought so many people got the surgery until I found this website. I am home from work tomorrow so I am going to call tomorrow morning to get a consultation. And thanks again for all the replies I really appreciate it!
