Fiber?
Does anyone take a fiber supplement? If so what do you recommend? Everything I read about my hernia, it suggests to get in 20 grams a fiber a day. I know that I don't get that much in, because I am too busy trying to get in my protein. I still get constipated alot, so I was wondering if this would help. I feel really good today. I got in over 120 grams of protein and I am back on my Isotonix vitamins and Flintstones ( I still like them). What a difference a couple of days make. I go in May 28 for my check up. I was only to wait 2 weeks, but I guess they are away at a conference, so I had to post pone it a week. I guess I will be out of wor****il then. I really didn't want to go back to wor****il I have Dr. Wynn's clearance. Any suggestions?
Thanks
Nicki
Hi Nicki,
I like Benefiber too. Have you ever thought of combining your protein and fiber? Eating refried beans or chili for a double whammy for the fiber content along with the protein. I just checked a can of refried beans and for 1/2 cup there is 6 grams of fiber and 6 grams of protein, up the protein by adding cheese. I also keep a bottle of Sunsweet unsweetened prune juice around and occasionaly will take 2 shots in a 1 oz medicine cup. So far by doing these things constipation hasn't been a problem for me. I hope you feel better soon.

Actually I was going to post the same question to some of you veteran vet posties. Do you want suggestions on fiber or going back to work? On the fiber topic, I too have suffered the wonderful feeling of constipation. Never ever had that problem prior to surgery. I am adding good old BeneFibre to my good old oatmeal. It seems to clear things up and out. As far as going back to work, wait for the doctor clearance. It's hard enough taking care of yourself and getting in that protein without coping with work at the same time. Hope to see you at the next support meeting. Keep working hard at getting healthy.
Your Bud, Rob
