I am home-Finally
Well it turns out it wasn't anything I was eating or not eating. I went in to ER last Sunday and ended up having surgery on Thursday with Dr. Wynn. I had an internal hernia and the small intestine went through it, then my bowel was twisted and finally there was a lot of scar tissue. I am not clear that this has anything to do with gastric bypass surgery, although my hubby thinks he remembers Dr. Wynn saying this only happens to 2% of gastric bypass patients. The whole of the internal hernia was a the Y, where they reroute everything. I have some really cool pictures of my insides that they let me keep. I will have Dr. Wynn explain it more to me when I go in for a check up in two weeks. This was all done laposcopically, but since I just had all this plastic surgery done three months ago-it sure is taking it's toll. Since I couldn't eat for those eight days prior to surgery and the whole week in the hospital my protein levels are down to 13. I have to double up on my shakes and make sure everything in my mouth is protein. This just goes to show you that if you are having any problems at all, you need to seek your doctors. I had x-rays, blood tests, cat scan, and barium scan all done and nothing showed up on it. It wasn't until they went in surgerically to explore did they find all this. So I will be home for at least two weeks.
The neat thing about the whole thing was to see how far Christiana has come in reponding to a gastric bypass patient. They are finally getting the dietary and physical needs of a gastric patient. I was so impressed how much has changed in 14 months. I also, brought my before and after pictures with me and the nurses were tickled, because they never get to see the end results. They enjoyed that.
Thank you for all your support and prayers and the skills of Dr. Wynn, Brett and Shelly (PA at the hospital). God was listening to them and took really good care of me.
Hugs

I am so glad you are home & okay. I don't know much of anything about internal hernias but I know scar tissue/ adhesions suck. I had problems with intestinal pain and none of the tests they did ever showed anything until they went in to explore. I had the adhesions as a result of my 1st c section.
Were you in the hospital ALL weeK? I'm sorry, I didn't even know. Go Go protein Hope you are feeling better & stronger soon.
Welcome Home Nicki!
I was wondering how you were since your last post, I didn't know you were in the hospital. Thank God, you listened to your body and got yourself to the ER, you just never know. Anyway, take good care of yourself and get your protein levels up. You will be in my thoughts and prayers.
((hugs))
