Each person needs to do their own research and check with their own resources. The resources I use at PMRI and the nutritionists at ACAC in West Chester have both much concerned with six meals a days and protein intake, than that the protein shakes or smoothies you drink have milk or soymilk as an ingredient. Actually as an early posty I have not even worried about carbs or calories, just to make sure that I was getting sufficient protein and liquids. Skim Milk and soymilk both do break down, but they also have so many nutrional features that I would hate to imagine going without them. Rob

It does pay to do your homework...what do they say better safe than sorry? Does anyone know Dr. Wynn/Irgau's position on milk? I am calling them so much these days in the hopes of getting a surgery date, I am trying to limit my calling so I don't tick off these kind people who are just trying to do their jobs -- without my interruptions.

I always use water in my protein shakes. I buy the Banana Yogurt Protein Delite and it tastes perfectly fine with water. I have had people try it and the firs tthing they always ask "This is made with water not milk?". Of course I have a water cooler in my house with water delivery since I can not stand tap water now. The dietician at PMRI said skim milk is great to use and they even suggest making it "Fortified" by adding powdered milk to the skim milk. You get abotu 9 grams of protein and about 80 calories in a cup of skim milk. If you read the label it says it has 12 grams of sugar too. My dietician said this is a different kind of sugar & is okay. It is not like the 12 grams of sugar you see in a candy bar. Right after yoru surgery, beleive it or not, it will probably be a struggle to get in enough calories or protein and this is a great help. Plus, the taste of your protein shakes is generally much better when mixed with skim milk then with water. It is a personal taste choice of course. If you ever get into the position where you are consuming too many calories then you may look to something like the skim milk to cut out - assuming your protein is okay. Of course you have to take your own doctor's advice into consideration as well. This is one reason I am glad Dr. Wynn's office has the program set up with PMRI so we can see dieticians.

You can always try Atkins no Carb milk thats out now that works great... A great little Milk/Yogurt tip... get the Atkins no Carb milk and the Dannon no Carb vanilla creme or strawberry creme yogurt and mix the two for an awesome yogurt drink that tastes sweet and creamy and yummy!
