Penn Health Vitals on Channel 6 at 7pm
There was an excellent show on Channel 6 today sponsored by U of Penn Hospital on obesity and gastric bypass. They had a live chat on-line after the show and guess who asked a question:
Question Elissa Hart: I had RNY WLS in Delaware on January 26th. The surgery is performed by a similar Team. I did have a stricture and had and EGD and my stoma needed to be strecthed about 6 weeks out. How common is this and I'm told it might happen again? Thaqnks for the informative program.
Answer Noel N. Williams, MD: Elissa -- This happens in approximately 3% of patients. Usually, one stretch is sufficient but some patients require two.
U of Penn appears to have a similar program as PMRI, but seem to be further down the road. I think I'm going to pursue information about their support groups for next month.
Hey Rob, Glad to see that you watched the program. It was excellant. The oppurtunity to ask questions after was a great oppurtunity to gain more knowledge about WLS. Seems like they also have a Team environment maybe a little more advanced than CHRIAS with PMRI. I hope they watched too. I was surprised to learn only 3% had strictures after surgery. They document this information which is great. I read every question & answer for 2 hours after the program. People really do want & need more good information. So many are misinformed and need an open forum like the U of Penn provided to ask questions and get some answers.
Hope to see more of these programs in the future. ((HUGS)) Elissa
