PMRI - Psychologist experience
Yesterday I had my appointment with Nancy the nurse practitioner and Dr. Lisa Pistone the psychologist at PMRI. I am very anxious to know how many of you have also seen Dr. Pistone. I did not have a good session with her , and I am curious as to how many people she approved after one session, and how many people were not immediately approved. Please tell me of your experience with Dr. Pistone. I would also like to know if anyone took her 12-week course of 6 meetings in which you see a dietitian, her and I think she said an exercise therapist. Also, with that in mind, has anyone been approved by a PMRI doctor in spite of a negative opinion of a psychologist?
Please also tell me your experiences if you saw the other psychologist. I am eager to compare the "approval rates" of both psychologists.
Hey Karen!!!
Man Yep she was the one I saw. I just about had to argue with her because she was like... Oh the test you took shows you as depressed. Im like um Im not depressed and which questions led to that opinion? She said the one that said that I am not sexually active and the question that says that I am tired alot and the one about energy levels. I EXPLAINED to her that Since I am morbidly obese when I get home from work I am extremely tired from carrying around this weight all day long. I said you have to understand that you cannot look at us in through "skinny" eyes. It takes alot of energy out of us just to get from here to there. And as for the sex I was like you try being my weight and having an "active" sex life I told her that there are some things that overweight people just "cant do" I said I do have sex but its hard when you are this overweight. I was pissed because I felt like she did not understand the problems that face overweight people and was mad I had to explain that to her. After I explained that to her she wrote it down and said I was approved. She tried to get me to go on the 12 week thing first and I told her that I feel as though I did not need them because I had gone through so much already and have groups that I attend and also that I was not clinically depressed and that was a rush statement. Well that seemed to convince her and she approved me. I dont know... I didnt care for her. But of course that is just my opinion. Others may have had an easier time. welp thats my story. So sorry you had a bad time with her It will happen dont worry. It does take awhile.
Karen, I had Lisa Pistone. I was approved after the 1st visit. I did not have to goto the nutrition classes. I have never been depressed. A little frustrated with the diets that didn't work, but that is different. Sorry you had an uncomfortable experience. I'm sure it wasn't the first, nor will it be the last. I think the classes are good for the insurance company's approval. Besides the more you know ahead of time the easier it should be for you. Just another hurdle in your journey towards being a loser. I had Dr Keenan. I have to take the course, too. I will attend #5 of 6 this coming Thursday. I think I was one of the first as it was a new program at PMRI while I was going through this part of the process. I was NOT happy. Due to the 12 weeks involved, my surgical date had to be postponed for 6 wks. I am making the best of it as I like to be well informed. I have two more classes to attend. But without the classes, I don't think there is one thing about my journey that would have been different. I have researched this enough and have been on this website enough to have a well rounded knowledge of this surgery. I'm not sure in my interview what I could have said to make the psychologist feel I have to attend this, but I disagree. However, I am making the most of it.
