Are we suppose to wear a medic alert bracelet? I will have surgery on April 19th but this is the first I heard of this unless I was daydreaming?

Hi Karen, Yes, it was advised that we wear one due to the fact if you are ever in an accident or whatever and they try to insert an NG tube they could rupture your pouch. They said it at the support group meetings and also at the hospital when I was discharged I was told that anyone around me on a regular basis was to know No NG tubes for me. Dr. Irgau's office has laurens hope literature in the waiting room too. Of course you can get one from anyone you like. They also give us that blue card at the docs office to have laminated that is a medical alert and describes the procedure in detailed medical terms that another doc or surgeon could understand. Linda

Wow, I feel like I am in left field again. I did get the medical alert necklace at my local pharmacy, not fancy like yours Dr W. mentioned it in passing on my last visit before surgery but that was the first time I had heard about needing one. I never got a blue card? I did pay my bills, honest, lol If you make it to the meeting would you bring it so I can see what It says? Mish

Hi Mish, I went to www.laurenshope.com No NSAIDS means no non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs...something that can be commonly given but is a big no no for us ( Aleve, Advil, etc ) Linda
