I Ate Cake
Yes, I sure did. It's my birthday and I'll eat cake if I want to... haha
My co-workers (who all are on diets, and who do not know about my wls) brought in Entemans Low Carb pound cake, strawberries, and no fat cool whip. I felt like I had to eat it. So I did, almost a whole piece, it tasted wonderful ! I felt a bit over stuffed, but not sick or anything. I can pretty much eat whatever I want. I know that I should be thankful but I'm afraid it's going to not be a good thing for me. I need to know that I CAN'T have some things...
Here's the worst part. My Dad took me to lunch (who doesn't know about wls, and didn't notice I was smaller ) I had ham&Cabbage, not alot but about 4 bites of bread and butter. AND, my g/f's are taking me to dinner (one know's one doesn't)...
I really feel like I'm falling into bad habits already. Help me shrug off this feeling of doom, ok guys??
Thanks!
Hiya Tina,
Happy birthday to youuuuuuuuu! Now, about this cake business young lady ..in all seriousness tho,
First: don't beat yourself up, what's done is done and you can't go back, best thing to do is learn from it.
Second: It may be a bit soon to be testing the "what can I eat" waters for you but having said that...we all are doing this to live a somewhat NORMAL life, whatever that is. Normal people have a bit of cake on their birthday, they just don't eat a whole cake.
Third: ( and I think most importantly ) you did this wonderful thing for yourself by being brave and addressing your weight problem. In my opinion ( take it for what it's worth ) I think you will be much happier in the long run if you come clean with the people in your life about your surgery, that way you won't have to feel like you have to put on a mask when they are around and stress yourself about " looking normal" or having them suspect things. Whats done is done, the surgery is a fact of your life..you have moved on. Stop trying to live in your old life...embrace your new self and new habits.
Fouth: Give yourself some credit for being a strong capable woman..you have been and WILL be sucessful. Be proud of who you are and what you are accomplishing! Realize ok, so you made some choices that could have been better..dust yourself off...go to dinner...wear something that makes you feel and look GREAT...do your hair...get that lipstick on ( since it won't come off on the glass now ) and go have a good time with your friends...and tell friend number 2 about your surgery..heck, show her your battle scars in the ladies room LOL. You can do this. Now...go have fun
Linda
Hi Tina,
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
My birthday was yesterday, St. Paddy's Day and "THE BIG 50"
It's your birthday... it only comes once a year.
So celebrate your day, tommorow you can get back to eating healthy. Don't be so hard on yourself, go ahead and shrug it off, you have my permission.
Enjoy your night out with the girlfriends.. you deserve it!
((hugs))

Hey sweetie- don't be so hard on yourself. I know everyone does not feel this way - but I want to feel normal - and to me normal is being able to have a little something now & then. You don't want to eat bread and butter at every meal - but once is a while, especially when you are out to eat is normal. Be honest with yourself - how much of that bread and butter would you have eaten pre op? See the difference? I'm not saying that you "can't" fall into bad habits. But I think the key is moderation - and you have a great tool to help you with that. But if you think you are really in trouble, give the folks up at PMRI a call. I think you are probably just fine as long as you are not making cake & bread your staples. Keep in mind yor total caloric intake, daily & over a few days. Still keeping a food diary? Watch that to help you see if things are okay too.

Don't worry. Be happy. Celebrate that birthday anyway you want.
Keep your diary up-to-date and make sure that you keep getting plenty of proteins. Planning is important, especially on going out on the town nights. I think your body will tell you if your being too bad. Boy will it tell you.
Besides if it was lo-carb and the sugar wasn't too much, how bad could it have been. A whole piece. WOW. Did anyone videotape it? We should put it up on the site.
Ham and cabbage sounds good. Bread and butter ocassionally as long as you can handle it. Just remember how you felt, and figure out what you want to do the next time.
Your Bud,
Rob
