Anxious initital visit
Hi Everyone.
YIKES!!! Soon i will be having my initial visit with Dr. Samuel Miller, Seaford DE. and I find I am getting anxious with each and every day that passes. Are there others out there that have Dr. Miller as their surgeon? If so may I ask what things can I do ahead of time to make this initial visit go well. I have my PCP's blessing as well as other physicans that treat other problems I have due to my obesity. My insurance plan does cover this type of surgery as well. I just am trying not to soar too high in the clouds, cause disappointment is a really hard fall. So say prayers for me but also if you would share your experience with Dr. Miller it would be greatly appreciated.
I have Dr. Miller. I've been through the "initial" meeting twice. (I chickened out in Oct 02 -- actually, my husband did, but I'm back now). There is a process to go through. Your first visit is very thorough as you will be speaking with Dr. Miller and a staff person. After the overview briefing, you will have a one-on-one with him. He takes all the time you need to answer your questions. He's quite candid and exudes confidence. Before your second visit, you will be expected to attend at least one support group meeting. There you will meet LOTS of Dr. Miller's patients. You'll also find Tina (the scheduler) very available and very helpful. Several (if not most) of the staff have been through the surgery, so they understand your concerns and fears.
Feel free to call me (734-1902) if you want to talk. I'm waiting for my second sleep apnea test (scheduled for March 31) and hope to have BCBS approval nlt 2 weeks after the results are in. Once that's done, I'll be scheduled for my second appointment, so we'll be kind of walking the road together.

HI QUEETA! I WENT FOR MY FIRST VISIT ON MARCH 10TH. I WAS VERY PLEASED WITH DR MILLER. HE WAS VERY INFORMATIVE AND STRAIGHT FORWARD. I COUNTED DOWN THE DAYS FOR A MONTH...COULD NOT WAIT TO GET THINGS ROLLING. I AM TOTALLY PLEASED. I GO TO THE CARDIOLOGIST TODAY....I WAS SURPRISED HOW SOON I WAS ABLE TO GET IN WITH THEM. KEEP YOUR HEAD UP AND SOAR HIGH EVERYTHING WILL WORK OUT. TAKE CARE AND KEEP US IN TOUCH.
Welcome Etta!!!
How exciting!!! I can still remember the feelings I had when I was in your stage of the journey. It all seemed like it was going to take forever and then suddenly time simply flew away from me and it was my turn.
I, like some of the group before me had Dr Irgau and Dr Wynn. But my girlfriend went downstate to Doc Miller and she was quite pleased. She has done very well. She was able to lose 100% ? of her weight. I think she started out at about 280 and the last I spoke with her she was down to 130 before plastics. Doc said with plastics they fully expect more pounds lost. I find it amazing every time I see her ... she was a beautiful woman before surgery and yet with the surgery she has completely changed into an even more beautiful woman. I love her vim and vigor ... her love of life. Ahhh once again I digress ... what I was trying to say is she has been well pleased with her surgeon and highly recommends him to everyone.
Wishing you the very best in your journey. Be sure to record your path in either your online journal or a personal one offline. These memories will become very important and precious to you in the days to come. Also be sure to get some photos, I know, I know, I hated the camera also ... but it really helps to have those photographs to record your progress.
Again, I wish you the very, very best!
Hugs,
Tammy
Hi Etta,
Dr. Miller is my Doctor and I can't sing his praises enough. In the office you have undivided attention there is no rushing you out for the next patient he answers all your questions making sure you understand everything. Their training education is/was great, Chris left the practice at the end of February and I'm not sure who has taken her place. His office staff is great, Tina takes care of all the insurance matters. Dr. Miller did my surgery Thursday there were complications (not his fault) and he got me through them and I'm on the road to recovery. I have no regrets that I picked him to be my surgeon.
