Hi Everyone, I had my surgery on the 3rd. Been feeling not so great. Had to go to the hospital the other day just to make sure I didnt have any blood clots or anything. I was feeling very short of breath and extremely weak and dizzy. Brett from Dr. Wynn's office called and told me to go straight to the hospital. (that was scary) I know I wasn't getting enough food in. I think I was still in hospital mode in that I was afraid to take more than one ounce ("and it should take an hour to eat that one ounce!!!") and even with all the research I did I still was trying to "feel" how my stomach would adjust to things and was just doing one ounce every hour of liquids and food and protein and such. I lost 20 lbs in my first week. No wonder I was weak!! I have been more daring lately and have found I can eat and drink quite a bit more than I thought in one setting. It takes me awhile but im getting there. Been having some pain in my left side and have to get an abdominal x-ray just to be sure everything is alright. Been looking pretty yuky with the paleness and the dark circles around the eyes and dry lips lol. I went to the doctor and spoke to dr. Iragau he had the results from my hospital tests which turned out alright thank goodness So I have to really discipline myself and make sure I get that food and protein and water in. the water is hard and I am soooo darn thirsty all the time. but I have really been doing better. I notice that when I do drink or eat anything I burp like 2 seconds after...did anyone else have that ??? I know that sounds weird. well just wanted to pop in and say hello. And let you know that I am doing alright Elizabeth M

Hi Elizabeth, It will get better ! I felt realllllllly crappy for at least the first 4 weeks. Finally starting to feel like myself now at almost 7 wks out. I was so dizzy and weak in the beginning.. couldn't take a shower without being exhausted! Keep your protein and water up.. and I'm sure you will feel better soon. Oh.. talking about popsicles... I used the isopure (already made in a bottle from Vitamin SHoppe) and made popsicles from them.. that way you get your protein in too! Take care.

Hi Elizabeth, . My first month was great. No problems at all. A little tenderness in the drain site area and where the intervenious was in my forearm. I had no problem getting in my protein drink and most of the foods. Then I had a UTI, urinary tract infection, Brett put me on Cipro and everything else started to act up. Co-incidental maybe. I started with not being able to eat more than a teaspoon or 2 of food, then I'd start major burping & hiccupping and finally the food just won't stay down. Kinda like Acid Reflux would be. I perservered for a month like this. I called Brett on Thursday, I am scheduled for an EGD on Monday. Gonna check to make sure I haven't got anything going on. So if you don't feel well, make sure you let the Doc's know. Other things could be going on. I am feeling better physically than before the WLS. I don't have 100% stamina yet. Tire easy and just can't hang yet. I do get up early, work out every day at the gym. But in the afternoon I have to take a power nap. I'm sure in 6 months this will all be history. LOL. ((HUGS)) Elissa

Elizabeth, I sure hope you are feeling a little better. I know for me I had and sometimes still have the burping after eating hardly nothing. Kind of strange to me, cause I really never had that before surgery. Oh well, small price to pay. I also had a very noisy tummy when I would eat ... my tummy would make all kinds of noise ... so strange and yet kind of funny. I asked a girlfriend who had had the surgery about it and she said that she had it also. I told her that hubby said he couldn't hear it and she said he was just being nice ... you can hear it. GEE thanks a lot!!! Oh well, small price to pay I guess. Just to give you a glimmer of hope ... I am about 4.5 months out and I am feeling so good!!! There are times that I hardly remember that I even had the surgery. Although I still can not over eat and all ... I have gotten pretty used to it and do pretty well most days. Please be sure to update us on how you are feeling. We are here for you during both the good and the bad days! Kinda like a marriage I guess ... as in ... "Do you take this friend through sickness and health?" *giggle* Hugs, Tammy

Hi, Elizabeth... I'm so glad that you're feeling better now. Always, always call your doctor when you feel anything is amiss. I also had a problem with thirst in the beginning and I just couldn't quench it because the water made me too full. The frozen popsicles were FABULOUS for quenching my thirst and not filling me up. Plus, they felt great on my dry lips. Tina also including a really good tip about freezing our protein into popsicles. I never thought of that and will definitely try it. Hope all is well...thanx for keeping us posted!! (((hugs))) -Karen
