Poked, scoped and back again all in the same day lol
I went to the hospital bright and early this morning for my pre-op blood work and EDG. Let me just say it was an absolute breeze! First in line at the lab and they took me right in, then over to the GI lab. I had to wait a bit there because I was early. They took me back, prepped me and gave me some lovely drugs, damn I could stand more of those LOL. I vaguely remember a gagging sensation and my mouth being suctioned and that's about it.
The nurses were all wonderful and really took their time to make sure I was comfortable and Dr. Irgau was as nice as can be as usual. He told me everything looked fine with the exception of some slight gastritis in the stomach and said it wouldn't affect surgery at all. If it was still there he would give me some meds. Mosat likely brought on by stress. STRESS???WHO MEEEEEEE?????? LOL He said he also took a biopsy just to make sure all is well. Everything is a go and just gotta wait....11 days and counting!
Hi Linda.........I have to have my stomach scoped too. My appointment with Dr. Wynn is May 13th. What should i expect. I know I'll be put under, but what will i be experiencing? (sp?) lol What do you feel like affter you come to.....and speaking of that, how before you come to? My father will be there with me but if it's going to be a few hours, then I can just tell him to come back at a certain time so he doesn't have to wait around all morning.
My experience was actually a good one. I had my mom drive me over since I wasn't supposed to come alone. Even tho I was a bit early there wasn't much of a wait in the GI Lab waiting room. They told my mom she could go next door to the Heart Center and give them her name and mine and they would come get her when it was over.
They called me in and put me in a cubicle ( reminded me of how it used to be in the ER...separated by curtains ) a nurse went over my medical history with me again and rechecked any meds I was on. Then they gave me a gown to wear. You get to keep your pants on lol. She started an IV then they wheeled me into the procedure room. I was met by another nurse..very nice named Maryann she gave me a bit of a sedative and then sprayed some Novacainish type stuff in my throat, tasted nasty for just a second or so then put a thing in my mouth and Dr. Irgau came in and said hi. I then have a vague memory of gagging, at least I think I remember that and my mouth being suctioned like at the dentist. Next thing I remember I was back in a cubicle and my mom was there.
I was asleep but not is the only way I can describe it, they give you a combination of Demerol and something else. The second thing gives you a kind of amnesia. I woke up feeling fine, not groggy or fuzzy, just very relaxed and happy. LOL it is great stuff. I have high blood pressure and came out of this at a nice steady 117/77 ! I tried to talk her into keeping me hooked up and letting me take some home with me but no dice LOL.
The whole procedure only took maybe 15 mins tops and then I was in recovery for about 30 - 45 mins. They gave me a soda and I sat talking to my mom. Dr. Irgau came in and told me everything looked good except for some minor gastritis ( probably stress induced ) and that he took a small biopsy while in there to make sure all was good and then said I will see you in surgery!
They make you take a wheelchair to the front door to go home. My instructions were to not drive the rest of today, don't sign any papers or make and huge important decisions and don't cook cause I might forget I turned the stove on ( lol I bet everyone wishes I forgot how to turn it on..umm not exactly a chef here )
We stopped and had some coffee and breakfast and you'd never know I even had anything done. I came home and later got really sleepy and took a nap and woke up feeling ok still. Go ahead and have your dad wait in the waiting area instead of leaving, they said they like to be able to reach your support person right away when you come out.
For as terrible as it sounds to have a camera shoved down your throat and into your intestines, this was one of the easiest medical procedures I have ever had done and everyone really made sure I was comfortable. You will do great, it's a piece of cake...low carb sugar free cake that is
Hi Linda. Glad Friday went fast for you. Glad you told me the EGD was a breeze. I'm going in Monday for an EGD. I have been perservering with this Acid Reflux thing that started about the 1st month out. Can't get in more than 1 or 2 teaspoons of food. I start burping and hiccupping and most times After talking to Brett last Thursday, he has me scheduled for Monday, just to see if evertything is going on okay. Hand in there sweetie, It will be tough, but it is sooooooooo worth all this. ((HUGS)) Elissa
Hey Linda you are well on your way! Yahhhhhhh!
I'm envious and VERY happy for you.
Joe, Welcome.
Elissa, Be sure to post after your procedure.
That EGD was the EASIEST thing I've done yet.
Joe, Just be sure to be well hydrated the night before so they can get your vein. I was difficult, as usual. I was dehydrated because I was sick for a day and a half before the procedure. The nurse was quite competent and very understanding. I got there at 7:30 am and they took me back 8'ish. I also had Mary Ann, she was great, too. Dr Irgau was late, so I laid there for a while waiting for him to give the order to put me out. I remember ABSOLUTELY nothing about it except after administering the meds, I was being waken up and they called my daughter as I was dressing and it was only 9am ! ! I'm glad I remember nothing. They told me the procedure only takes about 5 mins. You'll do fine.
