Counting down
Hi Vicky,
Congrats on your upcoming surgery! I had an extremely difficult time with protein shakes. All of them made me gag something fierce! Finally I found one called "Protein Delite". It is made by Scitech nutrition and can be bought at Carb Busters D'Lite or at other various places online. I personally really enjoy the banana yogurt flavor and the pineapple vanilla. (I use 10oz water with 2 scoops of powder). I will actually drink two glasses sometimes in one day. That is how much I like it. The first 3.5 mths post I didn't drink any protein shakes because like I said they all made me gag. Hope
Congratulations!!!
I have found a few that I like, and a few that I really don't care for. It really is kind of a personal thing and to make matters worse ... your tastes are going to change after surgery, at least for a little while. I would highly recommend that perhaps you consider getting one canister of one that you like now to have after surgery and perhaps some samples.
My docs office sells some good packets of protein. They come in a lot of different flavors, everything from soup to puddings. They have a high grade protein, but the problem is they only have 15 gms per serving. But I would have been lost without them when I first had my surgery. I also agree with Carla, I love the Unjury. I use both the unflavored and the chocolate (as in hot chocolate - yum). I usually use a full scoop of chocolate and a half scoop of unflavored to get 30 gms in one mug. I personally also like the Whey Fruity - punch and lemonade. I mix them with extra water or sometimes make them with crushed ice. I usually include one half scoop of unjury unflavored to bump the protein up to 37gms. If you need addresses to any that I have posted on, email me and I will be glad to forward them or you can check out my profile, I think I have most of the stuff that I am using posted there with URL links. When you are a little further out, I found a protein cookie (sport cookie - trail mix) that I really like. I buy mine at Carb Busters on Kirkwood Hwy in DE. If you go in there, Ed usually will allow you to sample before you buy. I also have found several protein bars that I like. Although I don't eat them all the time. I have not tried the Protein that Hope recommends, but have heard rave reviews on it. Again, if you go to Carb Busters, Ed may let you sample it. Be sure to let him know that you are a bypass patient, he has discount cards for us.
BTW - who is your surgeon?
Best wishes in your finding something that works for you and in your upcoming surgery.
Hugs,
Tammy
Hey Vicki,
Good luck. 3/31 is just around the corner. I have found a wide variety of protein shakes that I love. Unjury is great. Although I just mix it with oatmeal. Chocolate with Little Richards Peanut Butter and soy milk is great. Vanilla with DaVinci orange syrup, soy milk and crushed pineapple makes a Pineapple Orange freeze. Invest in a good smoothie maker and then the world is your oyster.

Congrats Vicki. It'll be here before you know it. I like the strawberry & cream Isopure from the Vitamin Shoppe. It has 50 grams of protein for 2 scoops. I mix with 1/2 skim and 1/2 soy milk, another 12 gr. So 62 grams in a 12 oz. shake. I sometimes put in 3 or 4 real strawberry's. Then I partially freeze it. Kinda tastes like strawberry freeze. UMMM. I'm not big on chocolate. Hope this gives you some alternates. ((HUGS)) Elissa
