stopped losing
Hey its 5 1/2 weeks since surgery & the past week I havent lost an ounce. Nothing has changed otherwise. I know you hit times where you don't lose but I didn't think it wld be so soon. I started at the gym on Friday. Hoping that will help me. Anyone have any suggestions or hit the plateau so soon?? Hope to hear from you, Cynthia

Cynthia, don't worry, plateaus can and will happen to us all and at different times. I hit my first at 3 weeks. Your body is adjusting to what it has been through and with the exercise/walking that you are doing, you are building muscle. If you took your measurements prior to the surgery, take them again now, my bet is that you are losing inches and building muscles. If you didn't take your measurements, then I'll bet your clothes are showing the loss.
Not to worry, your scale will start to go down again. Some plateaus are longer than others, this journey sure is a bumpy one. Just hang on. ((hugs)) Carla
Carla said it best. Plateaus are part of the burden we carry. Actually going to the gym is great. I find whenever I got stuck, I get even more incentive to go at that eliptical trainer a couple more minutes, or raise the weights I'm lifting. I'm still motivated, still obese, but working my way toward overweight. Remember to drink water also, it helps flush the system. If none of that works just trying walking or climbing stairs. Remember Rome wasn't built in a day, and our new bodies won't be either.

Cynthia:
I know it gets hard. And we don't know if we are eating too much or adding muscle instead of droping pounds. But the good news is that one or the other will show it's true self. Like Rob said, these plats do occur. Just hang in there.
I was just on a Prison Retreat Weekend and I knew it was going to be hard with the nutrition since our eating time was limited as well as I had to eat what was offered in the Prison cafeteria, and I could not get fluids whenever I wanted. So I came home bloated, swollen and 5 of the 75 pounds I had lost in 2 month back on these bones of mine. So I did not follow the rules for 4 days (Thurs. thru Sunday). But as soon as I got back on track the pounds came right back off. Now that I know better what to expect I can manage my intake on the next weekend.
Hang in there ... you will get on track and it won't take as long as it used to.
The good news, also, to anyone else out there reading these posts, is that we can slip and even fall, but getting up is so much easier with all of this weight not holding us down.
Keep on plugging.
