Howdy folks...
I am just about three weeks post-op from having an open RNY, down 30ish pounds, and feeling pretty darn good but boy do I have cravings! Sweets are not the problem as sugar free jello is too sweet and kinda makes me want to get sick and I can't seem to tolerate equal much any more. I am craving my favorites like pizza, chili, or a big chef salad! I am also afraid that when I can start eating raw fruits and veggies again and do get to eating normally that I will stretch out my "new" stomach. Is there anyone else out there with rumbles in their tummy and these thoughts in their head?
Sharon
Hi Sharon,
Congrats on a great job at almost 3 weeks! I'm almost 4 wks out (-28), and have the same things running through my head! I'm not a good one to ask tho, cause I've not had the smoothest road. I miss food. I use splenda, and find the stuff made with it is too sweet for me too. I just ordered pizza for the kids and a broccoli ricotta pizza. I'm hoping I can scrape off some of the cheese and brocoli and have that. lol I get noises a lot in my tummy.. I don't know if it's hunger growls or just "hey.. whats this new stomache doing here" growls. haha...
Good luck, let me know how you are overcoming those cravings.

Hi Sharon, welcome to the nut nest I had lots of craving issues in the begining too. I think it is because our diest s are so restricted though. Here is some good news for you though - if you are on a puree diet - get some Wendy's chili (or your favorite kind) and put it in the blender for a few minutes. Then you have puree - and it WILL take care of yor craving! Of course if you are on clear liquids or something then don't do that but otherwise bonapetite!
welcome and congrats!!!
read my profile on the interesting stomach noises hahaha
i loved the refried beans too with cheese and alittle taco sause. i also like chicken noodle cup of soup(in the envolopes) with 2 saltines. sugar free fruit yogurt(blue bunny brand at wal-mart). smuckers natural sugar free peanut butter(adds 9 grams protien per serving) mixed in with my chocolate protein shake in the blender with ice. i also like to add sugar free internationals mocha coffee to my chocolate shake with ice in the blender. they both taste like those fancy frozen drinks you get in the mall.it was hard for me to find a protien shake i liked, but i found designer protien at GNC and i really like it. if i add peanut butter or the coffee mix to it i only use water not milk. dole sugar free frozen pops(the fruit ones) really helped with wanting something sweet and not being to thirsty. i also like wendy's chilli at about 4 weeks out. one small cup would last forever.
also have you tried spenda sweetener?
Hi, Sharon!
Yes, I remember extreme head hunger about 2 wks out. Oh, I wanted toasted cheese and tomato sandwiches, peanut butter on bread or celery, tacos, chinese food, raisin bran. The weirdest foods...I knew I couldn't have any of them, I just wanted them. But it passes...and then you can start easing into different foods slowly.
I tend to get 'hung-up' on certain foods and have them all the time...because I know they're 'safe', i.e., cheese/crackers, homemade salsa, fish, chili, etc. At three months I'm just starting to experiment. Point in case, today was a piece of a roast beef sub, sans roll. Went down well, but I was scared. Only had a couple bites. But I also have some fresh yellow squash on hand and have recently tried cucumbers....yum!!
I will admit it's difficult at church functions...fellowship is wonderful, but it always involves FOOD! Case in point last night....cherry cobbler, bread pudding, chocolate cake, pies, cookies, pastries, et****pt 'involved' by geting my husband his plate, myself a cup of decaf coffee, and then just sitting and talking.
Good luck in your jouney...and as Kathy said, welcome to the nut nest!
(((hugs)))

Welcome Sharon!
Head hunger is the worst!!! It will go away though just try to keep your mind occupied when they happen (I know easier said then done). I know from the second wee****il about the 10 week I did have funny stomach feelings and learned that it was actually hunger. I used to have to eat every 3 hours while awake. But it was tiny things like a saltine with peanut butter. That goes away too. I know only eat 2 whole meals, 1 snack and a protein shake each day. Once in awhile I may eat a second snack it all depends on my waking hours. Welcome to the loosing side!!!
Hope
