Hey Everyone! I was wondering if anyone else since their surgery had an allergic reaction to something they never reacted to before??? Monday night after the WLS-DE meeting I took a depo shot. 15 minutes later I started itching, broke out into hives, and my right side started hurting. I immediatly took some benedryl which helped. Two horus later the hives went away but yesterday morning when I woke up my eyes were bright red, watery, sore, and I couldn't keep them open especially in any light. This morning they are still red and little watery but not as sore and I can keep them open. This was my first depo shot since the surgery (4 mths ago) and I never had this reaction prior to surgery. Doc said it was definelty an allergic reaction and as long as I didn't have problems breathing I would be okay. I just have to let this reaction run my system. Strange don't you think?? Of course I know our bodies change but I didn't think it would change to the effect that I was allergic to something. Anyone else have a similar experience????? Hope

Oh my gosh Hope - what an awful experience. I've had a reaction like that and it is no fun - and mine was no where near as severe as yours. I can't imagine "why" the surgery would have changed your chemical makeup in a way that would give oyu an allergic reaction - but anything is possible. Is the shot you took Monday from the same batch as the ones you took before? If not maybe they changed one of the ingredients? I don't know - I'm guessing here.. At any rate, I hope you are feeling better soon.

Oh, my! I know everybody is different but I was taking Depo shots pre-op and was considering getting back on. Now I'm not sure! Did you see anything in the library? Maybe we can bring that up to Brett in private Saturday? Keep us posted, hon... (((hugs))) -Karen

OMG Hope, very scary. Glad it has passed. I think you should ask Bret or one of the docs.
