Impatient
Hi everyone,
The more I read this site I realize how everyone is like a family here. I've just started this month to really research WLS and the more I feel it would be the right thing for me to do. I made an appointment with Dr. Wynn but it's not till August 13th 2004. It seems so far away. Are there other doctors I should be looking into in the Delaware area? How long after my consultation would you estimate that I would have my surgery? I was just wondering if there was anyone who weighed 250 and is 5'4 before their surgery and what there goal weight is. I would really appreciate any input someone could give me. Thanks
Michele
Hi Michelle,
I am the poster girl for impatient! I fist started researching this last year. I made myself stop smoking for 6 months then called to make an appointment when I got to that point. I called in may and couldn't get in until November. I was VERY impatient all summer long. A funny thing happened while I was waiting tho. I began to read this site and I spoke to some people I knew had used Dr's Irgau and Wynn and I was so impressed with the glowing reports that I decided it was worth the wait.
November eventually came and I began the process. Let me tell you, I have sure had my moments during this whole thing. During the process I have discovered these docs are truely worth the wait. They are so careful and really run you through the wringer pre-op to make sure you are safe and in good condition for the surgery. Time really started to fly once I got my pre-op appointments out of the way, now it is pretty much all over except for waiting for April 14.
Are you familar with PMRI? Eugene DuPont Preventive Medicine Rehabilitation Institute? up off of 141 abd Rt. 52..that's where alot of the pre-op things happen. They have a support group that meets there. Matter of fact they are having one this Saturday morning at 10 AM. it is 5.00 to attend and they are really informative. You can see all kinds of people in various stages of having this done, from pre-op researching it all the way to post-ops who have lost all their weight. maybe you could attend some meetings and it might help you decide what you would like to do.
Good luck in your journey, it really will go faster than you think!

Linda & Michelle & Sandy, You'll be glad to see there are 3 DR's. with you on your jouney and in the Hospital with you. Dr.'s Irgau , Wynn and Brett Gordon. You'll meet Brett on Saturday at the PMRI meeting. If you need more information on the support meeting just let us know. Their care is outstanding, their bedside manner is awesome. They have my confidence and undying gratefullness. You're gonna love them all. ((HUGS)) Elissa
Michelle, Ditto's to everything already said. Take the time to double click on each of our underlined names. You can read our journeys. Each and every one is different, but you'll soon see all the similarities that we all have and the stages we have been through. Some will make you laugh and some will make you cry. Some are more detailed than others. You see we are all on the same ultimate journey. That is to get healthy. This will keep you busy and all the research will be to your benefit. I only started getting on this site after the PMRI meeting in September. I started looking into this last January and was able to make my 1st appointment in June 2003. They bumped me up to May 3rd. Still took me a year either way until surgery which was 1/26. Lots of Dr. visits and tests to get done. Fortunately it takes time. Believe me when I say I'd relive the whole past year again to be here on the loosing side. HOORAY. Gives you the oppurtunity to make sure this is the right choice for you. WLS is forever Chickee. Hope to see you Saturday. ((HUGS)) Elissa

Hi Michelle!
This Saturday will be my second support group meeting. Since I signed on with this group last month I have learned more than I could imagine! Like everyone has said, don't worry about getting to August, it will be here before you know it! Did you get put on the waiting list for your appt with Dr. Wynn? My initial consult was supposed to be May 13, 2004 but I got a call because someone had cancelled their appt. in Nov 2003. I've just finished all my pre-op appts and can't wait for my surgery on April 13!
My only hint would be to see if your family Dr would refer you for the sleep study. That one takes FOREVER!

Hi Michele, When I made my appointment, May 2003, they gave me one for Nov. 14, 2003. I took it, then hung up the phone and called somewhere else. BTC in Langhorne PA, I got an appointment for June 5, I went, met the Doctor did the test, only to find out my insurance was not on network with them. OH if I had 24,000 I could have had it done by now. Well anyways, I waited for Nov. 14, it came and went, now I am waiting for April 26, 2004 So hang in there, and in the meantime use this site for all the great support. Dana
Hi, Michelle!
I just wanted to wish you well with your journey! I know it's a long wait but it's well worth it!!
Btw, I started 5'4" and 265 lbs. I am now 220 (as of this morning..whoohoo!) and my ultimate goal is 165. My next short-term goal, however, is getting below 200! Twenty more pounds!!
(((hugs)))
