48 hours-all liquids, hints?
What did everyone eat..well..drink during the 2 day pre op?
How did you handle it?
I can't do the jello with aspartame, so I'm pretty much thinking chicken broth and apple juice. I am going to try to make that plain jello with apple juice and splenda, but not counting on it.
Any advice is appreciated!! Thanks guys!
Hi Tina,
Congratulations on your upcoming surgery! The 2 day liquid diet is difficult. I will warn you but it is worth it! I drank diet gingerale, diet sprite, white cranberry juice, apple juice, beef and chicken broth, water, jello.... I think that was it. The 1st day wasn't too bad. It was the morning of surgery I was starving. I kept myself as busy as possible so I would not think of foods. Keep a journal... that's helps. Also, avoid the grocery store. I'll be praying for ya!! Hope
Hey, Tina!
Getting close, girl! The two days of liquids pre-op were hard...I won't kid ya. The first day I was at home and didn't really have to deal with 'food smells'. Apple juice, chicken noodle soup broth, jello, more broth, water, etc.
The second day was at work, so that kept me busy and I just kept drinking water, chicken noodle soup broth, and oodles of noodles broth. I wasn't as hungry as I THOUGHT I'd be...and I was also excited about the next monring!
You're going to do great!! Friday lunch at work will be our last meal together pre-op!! P.S. They now leave the cubed swiss cheese out on the salad bar everyday. I guess they got tired of me special asking for it!! lol
(((hugs)))

Tina,
I am so ready. D day in 5 days. Got your slippers and robe ready to waltz the halls of the 5th floor? Do you have an ? I looked at your journal and you haven't listed anyone??
My daughter said when the pre-admissions people call you tommorrow or Friday make sure you let them know we wanna be roomies and I'll do the same. I'll tell them Tina A----? Or who did you decide you'll officially be when you are admitted? LOL Elissa
Tina & Elissa,
Quite honestly, the liquid part was not all that hard for me. The toughest time was in the middle of the first day ... when the head hunger hit. But after that I really didn't have a problem.
My last meal, I had steak for breakfast. I really believe that having that heavy protein with no carbs helped to curb the urge to eat. Steak has always stayed with me for a long time so that is why I think it was a good choice for me. Also, I purchased a case of Fruit-2-O (sweetened with Splenda I am pretty sure - don't have one here to verify, but I am almost certain - but be sure to check first) at Cosco for 9.99 for a case of 24. Those really helped me. I had one in my hand constantly. I also did the broths. Didn't do the juice, was not aware that I was allowed (I wonder if not having the sugar in the juice helped to reduce the appetite?) My diet was not very varied at this point, I stuck with a couple of things that I had purchased and let it go at that. Stayed busy because there was still so much that I needed to get done before my surgery.
I wish you both the very best ... don't worry too much about it, the fasting stage will be here and gone before you know it. And you will have your badge of honor ... well actually 5 or 6 of them! *grin* And be on "The other side" trying to figure out how you are going to eat all that they (the docs) want you to!!! *wink*
Oh, about the slippers and robe. Slip on slippers are best, you won't want to bend to try and put on footies, etc. I took my robe and never used it. I used a hospital gown as my robe because it had the snaps in the arms and made it easier for me to get in and out of it on my own while still attached to all morphine pump and IV. BTW - they have all different sizes of gowns ... a couple they brought me were large enough to wrap around me a couple of times. When I got one of them ... I wouldn't let them take it away. I left it hanging on my robe hook. You know the fear ... nothing is ever going to be big enough to fit? I had it bad when I was in the hospital!!! *grin* Oh, and don't forget your chapstick!!! That was my personal favorite friend when I was there. But remember, I didn't get anything for the longest time **** chips or juice) cause I had to have the leak test. So the chapstick was a real saver for me. BTW _ I forgot mine and hubby had to run to the gift shop and buy me one ... had to mortgage the house, promise our first born child and hand over his Rolex to be able to afford to purchase one there. *grin* But even still, it was worth it to me ... like I said ... it was my new best friend!!! I didn't go anywhere without it .... more important to me than my morphine pump!!!
Best wishes to you both!!! So excited to have you join us here on de udder side!
