I am not losing the weight anymore . . .
In the first 3 months, I was losing weight at a very nice steady pace. On my fourth month, I came to a hault. I am now 6 months out, and only have lost 9 pounds in the last 2 months, and a total of 60 lbs. at six months out. It seems as if everyone is losing much faster than me. O.K., maybe I wasn't following the pouch rules to a tee, but is everyone out there following the rules? Am I the only one not "perfect" with the pouch rules? It also seems that I can eat much more than the average GB patient. I have been working really hard to stay with the fruits and veggies and small portions, but I always seem hungry. I am also working out 3-4 days a week, which I never had in the past. Is anyone out there going through the same thing I am going through? Looking for support. Thanks.
Hi Janet,
I'm still preop so I guess maybe in no position to comment, but why are you concentrating on fruits and veggies rather than proteins? I am a type 2 diabetic and when I eat fruits in particular many times they make my blood sugar skyrocket, which makes me produce insulin which makes me hungry, if that sequence makes any sense lol. Those items while good for us nutritionally in whatever amounts are carb heavy..even if it is naturally occuring sugar.
Have you tried really going back to your basic rules of proteins first and alot of water? It could be that over time you have strayed farther than you think you have. What does the nutritionest at PMRI say on your follow up visits? Make a food log and have her look at it and see where you may be gettin g off track some.
Lastly, you exercising alot. You could be gaining muscle. Check your measurements and see if you are smaller that way and it's not showing on the scale. I'm sure you aren't done losing, it may just take a bit of tweaking to get it right again.
Good luck!

Hi Linda,
Thanks for writing back. I just had a visit with Dr. Baag yesterday and my protein numbers are over the top right now. As Dr. Baag said, they are too good !! (meaning I am taking in too much protein, probably eating too much). I also had type 2 diabetes, but my numbers are great right now, so I really don't think that is an issue for me. As for my measurements, they are the same as they were two months ago, so no, I am not building muscle at this time. I think the bottom line is that I am eating too much food. I guess what I am asking is: Is there anyone out there that can consume a large (well larger than the average GB patient) amount of food (after surgery) and does not get sick? Also, the average GB person will stop losing weight after about a year, but I had stopped after 4 months. I understand that the surgery was just a tool, but I am just so surprise how hard it is getting to get this weight off. Dr. Baag also said that my body is working against me right now. It is really upset of what I did to it, and is holding on to every calorie that I eat. I hear so many wonderful reports of dramatic weight loss (which I am happy to hear), but I was just wondering if anyone is out there that hasn't had such wonderful results.
Wos Janet, it sounds like you are working as hard as you can to get things moving again. That's great your diabetes is no longer an issue. I am SOOOOO looking forward to that for myself! I guess just keep on keepin on, maybe one morning you will get out of bed and hear a giant WHOOOSH! lol it will be 10 more pounds falling off to make up for lost time! Keep me updated as to how you're doing. I really like to see how everyone is making out.

Hi there. I'm just wondering if they checked for a disruption in your staple line? It seems to me like you shouldn't physically be able to eat to much yet at 4 months unless you are grazing? I mean you shouldn't be able to sit down at one sitting and over eat. You have a different surgeon then I did though so I don't know for sure maybe they created a larger pouch. I hope you get it straightened out and under control what ever the cause. It would suck to go through this and still be able to overeat. I mean thats why we need this surgery right to help us not overeat. Push that doc to check out your staple line inside. Carrie
