Protein, etc
Hi Debbie,
Still preop here but have been searching out products for awhile now. At the Acme I found something called Soy Slender, it comes in chocolate, vanilla and cappucinno. The cappucinno is my favorite. I get it very cold and drink it. It has fiber, protein and no sugar. They are also carrying a reduced carb milk in with the reg milk called Carb Smart. I haven't tried it yet but read the label and it has 11 grams of protein per serving.
Have you thought of maybe using an unflavored protein powder that you could mix with your blended foods? Would up your intake without adding alot of bulk. I have a friend who did that and added it to everything from cottage cheese to refried beans and cheese.
As far as syrups and ketchup goes, I have seen a few. I found Walden Farms brand of ketchup at Genuardis in People's Plaza ( they have a whole section of natural and low carb foods if you havn't been there in awhile) It is slightly different than regular ketchup but the basic taste is there and it was around $3.00, not as expensive as the Atkins brand items. I have found with Walden Farms brands it is pretty much trial and error. Some is really good and some is really BAD lol. As for syrup, Trader Joe's carries sugar free Davinci brand flavored syrups. I haven't tried these yet but have heard others say how good they are. The closest trader Joe's I know of is right off 202.
Sorry for such a long winded reply! Hope maybe I helped a bit and hope you have a happy holiday!
Linda
since you will only be using the protein shakes a short time you won't need that much. it took me forever to find a good tasting shake. i really like chocolate, but the only thing chocolate about some of these protien shakes it that they are brown.lol. i really like designer protien chocolate from GNC. i also like to add things to my shake. smuckers makes a sugar free peanut butter. i put it in the blender with my protein powder and some ice. it adds 10 more grams of protein too. i also like to put sugar free international coffee mix in my protein shake..and this only adds 25 cals. but is very good.
this is a site for low-carb sugar free www.atkins.com
and this is a site for surgar free syrups www.divinci.com (if you want sugar free pancake syrup you can find this in any food store.
Hi, Debbie...
These are some really good responses and definitely some that I'll be checking out.
I also posted a new msg today about a protein support group in conjunction to ours. It's part of the OSSG (Obesity Surgery Support Groups) network, but their focus is...you got it...PROTEIN! Protein drink recipes, tips, ideas, sources (where to get the product) and general information about protein powders and drinks. They are interested in getting our protein requirements in the most delicious forms possible. But they are also interested in finding sf and low/zero carb items...

Hope all is going well!
