Hi everyone...my name is Karen and I am 2 weeks post-op. Had my 2 week appt w/Dr. Irgau this morning, and according to their records, I have lost 21.8 lbs....(they are comparing to my pre-op appt 1 week prior to surgery). I'm having 2 problems/concerns.... (1) I have a nagging, sometimes horrible, usually just nagging pain in my upper (mid) left quadrant. Ended up in the ER this past weekend because of it...and after a battery of tests....all finding nothing wrong...I went home (was given the option to be admitted to stay on IV pain meds...but declined.) Anyone have anything similar??? Almost seems like a pulled muscle...until I swallow something and my toes curl...then it seems inside. (Problem is, though I suppose it's good, this doesn't happen every time I eat/drink). (2) I am not due for my monthly friend for at least 2 more weeks....but have been crampy the last two days and started spotting today....can fast weight loss bring on my "friend"??? (Sorry men...had to ask... Other than those two things....everything's going well....would love to talk to any other postees.... Take Care all... K-

Karen, I don't know first hand since I haven't been banded yet, but the pains sound like some that I have read about in some postings. The responses to the concern attribute the pains in the left shoulder and chest after surgery to the gas used during surgery to enlarge the stomach internally to make the procedure easier. When the gas has disappated, the pains will cease. Congratulations on the poundage loss! Susan (Pike Creek)

Karen, Just read your 7/10 post and hopefully your pain has subsided already.....it was more than likely gas. I was banded on June 10 and I had that the first two weeks....thought at times that I was having a heart attack...walking helped and then it just disappeared right around two weeks. Your weight loss is incredible.....I've lost 22 and I'm 4 weeks out. Actually the scale stopped moving a week ago but I know it is probably because I am still not on regular food yet and my body tends to hold on to weight when I eat too little!! I'm glad to see others in DE getting the band. I feel like the outsider at the meetings at PMRI.........Take care. Karen V

Well...turns out my nagging pain, was a hernia which landed me in the hospital for the last 12 days. Seems a hernia developed where they removed the drainage tube after my by-pass. After one operation on 7-6 (yes Sunday), I was taken back to OR on 7-11 for inflammatory changes and fluid collections found by CT on 7-10. Came home yesterday, and other than normal surgical discomfort...everything seems okay. (My stomach looks like a putt-putt golf course, but all was done laproscopically, so should heal ok). Thanks for the replys...good luck to all... Karen from DE....I was planning on going to PMRI meeting this past monday....but was at hospital...hope to make next one!!! Feel free to email me...we can chat... Take care, Karen
