Im going thru my 6month insurance wait for the VSG at Christiana hospital and should get surgery sometime in Jan 2011. My insurance coverage will be changing Jan 1, and my 6th months wont be up until Jan 12.

Currently my insurance pays for almost all of the cost, but my plan is being dropped down to only 50% coverage for WLS. I know everyone plan is different but if you had to pay out of pocket for any portions what did you have to pay? I know the hospital can only bill so much and Im just looking for anyone who may have been in a similar situation. If your insurance only covered 50% how much did the hospital make you pay?

Any advice is appreciated!

I had to pay for the PMRI services and pre-request Dr's visits.. Phsyc evaul, Nutrionist and Dr's visit their for pre-Surgery clearance. Cardi and Pulminary Dr visit. Totaled then (6 yrs ago) about  $1000.00. $300.00 deductable for hospital. I guess I was very lucky. I had to validate being on a controlled weight loss regime for 6 months. I was denied the 1st time and after writing a letter and having my Primary DR. sign it,  I was approved. Back then it took me about 10 months from 1st visit to Surgery. I went to support groups to ask questions and listened and learned. Try to stay positive and focused. It can be very frustrating. Hey!
I had my VSG through Christiana Hospital - but my insurance covered it - I was very lucky!  I don't know how much it will cost you in the long run, but I do know from being a Christiana employee that they are really easy to make payment arrangements with and as long as you call billing soon after the first bill is received - you can make arrangements with them.

Hope this helps! And good luck with your VSG...feel free to email me with questions or if you want to talk! [email protected]

*hugs*
