Friends
Not sure how this works, or whyy I think of these things. I was trying to come up with a list of all my friends prior to my surgery almost seven years ago, and the people that I now consider my friends.
Growing up overseas and moving every other year, I have never had the typical set of childhood friends that a lot of people have. So I consider friendship a valuable asset. My college years were filled with drinking buddies. My early work years were also filled with a lot of drinking buddies. Then as my weight blossomed I just sort of sat down on the couch and waited for my friends to come to me.
Post surgery I have developed an amazing set of friends within my RNY journey. Too many to talk about. Two people who have always had a special place in my journey are Edna (my German/Australian cook) who convinced me that if you follow the rules you'll be successful, and Tammy who listened to my early stories about my journey and posted amazing nutrional information that kept me motivated and honest. There are so many otther from all of our support groups in DE who I looked forward to hearing their inspirational stories every month. I can't mention all their names because there are just so many.
Outside of Delaware, I have an amazing set of gastric bypass friends who conttnue to amaze me with their feats. Who would have thought that I would be friends with triathletesd and marathoners from Washington, Texas, California, New York, and all across the United States.
So then I have a new core group of friends here in Delaware. Why else would I be up at 5am every Saturday and Sunday weekend to ride and cycle. My running partner has pushed me well beyond my limits, training me for a marathon. learning how to cycle, so she could compete with me in dualathlons. A constant thorn in my side, she continues to make me complete every run during the week, and go harder on the weekends. My spin instructors at my old gym also took me under their wing and have included me in all of their family events. I have also developed deep friendships with several wonderful people. The common trait for all these people is that they have non-stop motors.
So, in summary, I have found that my new life has been highlighted by all of the new friendships that I have developed. So friends, I need to hear from you and find out how your life has changed. Sometimes you just have to post whatever comes into your head (and boy do I get a lot of stuff in this head).

Rob, You pretty much summed up the value of the friendship's that have developed as a result of having WLS. It makes me happy to know all the people that I have so mu*****ommon with, and call them my friend.
Hopefully within the next week, the venue for the new support group will be finalized. I will post as soon as I get the information. I missed the June meeting. Hope everyone is holding up in the heat!! It's been pretty brutal. Have a good July 4th. ((HUGS)) Elissa
