Bummed......

I have my first appointment on Friday but now with the snow coming I think that it will be cancelled. I am bummed as I was so excited to start this process. Does anyone have any experience with Dr. Wynn? Will I be able to get fit in quickly? (Some docs are notoriously slow to reschedule, I understand that no one has a def. answer for me :) ) What can I look forward to on this appointment? Thanks for your input!

We aren't going to get any snow (except for the flurries falling now).  You're appointment will still happen on Friday.  Best of luck in your journey!!!

Sorry that my forecasting skills were not too great - I'm not a meteorolgist (and I did not stay at a Holiday Inn Express the night before).  Hope that you either got to keep your appointment or were able to reschedule soon.

LOL, I was just happy that someone answered me. I did make the appointment. It went well but I realized that due to my RA I am only elligble for the sleeve and the DS. I prefer the DS and they don't do it there. However, I was glad that due to BMI, and other things that I am a great canidate. I am now on the search for a DS doctor. Thanks again for you response, it helped me out when I was nervous pre-consult.

I am just wondering...why can you not have the RNY if you have RA? And is it the same if you have AS?

I don't know what AS is, but Rheumatoid Arthritis often requires the use of NSAIDs as pain relievers, which RNYers should not take.  DS and VSG patients are allowed NSAIDs, so RA sufferers are, in my opinion, probably better off with a DS or VSG.

OH! Thats all!!! Ok. I cant take NSAIDS anyway. But the metabolics and the other meds are ok to take? AS is treated the exact same way as RA and I am on Methotrexate and Plaquinil right now and noone had told me anything about getting a different surgery. I guess I will still be alright. Thanks

Just be sure that you bring this up with Dr. Wynn before surgery and make her aware that you've got something chronic.  As I said, I don't know what AS is or its treatment regimen, so I can't advise you.  I guess if you're ok without NSAIDS now, you'd probably be fine without them in the future.
