Need some advice... (From the Women...)

I'll try to keep this short, but here's what's been going on...

I have had my period almost every day since the begining of December which is the result of my body finally coming off of my IUD I had taken out June 2009. I'm stuck in a dilema. Frustrated very much so, not to mention my husband (poor guy), but mostly because there's nothing I can do about it. Per the obgyn, they'd like to start me on a low dose hormone to just help me regulate again. But... Their next available appt is Feb 8th, and my surgery date is March 15th. Per Dr. Peters' office, I need to stop any type of birth control 30 days prior. That means, I'd have one week's worth of medicine to help stop my period. And the obgyn says their cancellation list is only for prenatal problem moms. So I'd have to call back on a daily basis to check for something sooner.

I really just don't know what to do. The intimacy between my husband and I is really important, and we've tried to compensate in other ways, but it's just not the same.

I've tried to think of any herbal supplements that might make it less, but haven't come up with anything. I don't think the drs office realizes how expensive those "monthly" supplies are either. Being bigger, I have to get those 14+ pads. I'm just frustrated all around. Help anyone?

I had been put on a progesterone pill to take 16 days of my period, to reduce cramping swelling, and the length of the period.  But I had to go off them a month before the surgery.
I wouldn't fool around with the surgeons' instructions. Unless you can call them and ask about a specific medication and dosage, which you can't yet, becasue you haven't seen the  GYN yet.

My first reaction to your questions is this:  You have been having a period since the beginning of December and the GYN can't see you until Feb 8.  Find a new GYN.  I called mine and told him I had been bleeding for 3 weeks with cramping, and he fit me into a 2:00 appt the next day.
That being said, changing dr.s now would be a nightmare.  So keep the appt.  Take the pills for a week.  It may help.  It just might slap your uterus in the face and make it sit up and pay attention, long enough to get you in and out of the hospital.

The next day after coming home from the hospital after my surgery I had a period.  Wasn't "expecting" it, but I'm 50 years old.  You never "expect" it at my age.  But it just figures.  The surgery isn't going to fix all your health problems overnight.  You are your best advocate. And the squeaky wheel gets oil!

I never heard this about birth control having to be stopped.  As a matter of fact, I heard the opposite...that you should make sure you're on a bc method and double it to make sure you don't get pregnant.  I have the IUD in now....there is no way in heck that I'm taking it out.

I'll have to speak with Dr. Irgau now.... my surgery is in March.

May God bless us in all of our endeavors.  May He forgive us for our frailties and our vanities and bless us to be prosperous in health, soul, and in life.

I know that they recommend you being on something so you don't get pregnant, but there's a time frame you have to stop certain medicines. BC and other things can cause you to have blood clots, and it's not a risk I'm ok with taking. It's just scary, and I don't want to do anything that might delay my surgery. I know people have waited longer than me to get it done, so my measley three months feels like an eternity. I've wanted to get this done for a few years, but am just afraid something will happen and cause me to post pone.

Things are getting slightly better. It's not as heavy as it has been, so maybe I'm slowing down some. I've lost some weight recently by going to the classes, but I don't think it's enough to kick start my uterus like this.

Only time will tell.

Just an update to everyone, I saw the OBGYN today, and all they said I could do was get blood work and make an appt for 1 month after my surgery. Still having the same problem, but just trying to wait it out at this point...
