Hello,

I'm soon to get my surgery with Dr. Irgau.  Can't wait.  I'm glad to see that there is a group such as this who have first hand experience with the Chrias group.  I'm leaving shortly to go out for my cardio test.  Next month I have a Pulmonary consult and I really hope I don't have to do a sleep apnea test (delay).  I know I don't have sleep apnea...I was tested for it a few years ago.  You think he'll take my word for it or is it mandatory?

I really would love to hear any comments about experiences with Chrias and Dr. Irgau.  He gives off good vibes and I've heard that he's a great surgeon.

Thanks

I don't think you'll be disappointed with any of the doctors in the group.  They are all winners in my book.  Dr. I assisted with my surgery and even though he wasn't my surgeon, he still took the time to come and see me after my procedure to check on me.
Most pulmonary Dr's will have you complete a sleep study regardless.  I don't know why its called a sleep study cause I know I didn't sleep at all!
Are you having your surgery at Christiana Hospital?  They have a new bariatric ward.  All private rooms and very nice.

Good morning and Welcome.

I am fairly new to post surgery life I had my RNY performed by Dr. Wynn just over 3 months ago and I couldn't be happier.  Since the beginning of the process I am down approximately 84 pounds.  I too live in the Bear area.

As much as all of the pre-op test are a pain in the butt we all know that they are for our benefit and need to be done.   When I went for my pulmonary consult they set me up for a sleep study as well ... and I agree with Judy not much actual sleeping was involved...so I'm not sure if it's considered mandatory but everyone I have met (who has undergone surgery) has had the test done.

I love CHRIAS.  Everyone there is really supportive I couldn't have had a better team of doctors to take care of me.  Even though Dr. Wynn did my surgery I had both Dr's Irgau and Peters check in on me at the hospital to make sure everything was going OK with my recovery.  They are a great team and would really recommend them to anyone looking to go through the surgery

Good Luck and hope to talk to you soon.

Dr. Irgau is amazing. His bed side manner is smeothing rarely seen in skilled surgeons. Heck all of the surgeons at Chrias have amazing bed side manner.

I've been hving abdominal pain since surgery andd Dr. Irgau has been taking amazing care of me. I will be having exploratory surgery after the new year. But Dr Irgau has stayed on top of the sitation.

Thanks for the reply.  I pray that your pain will be eliminated soon.  I felt a good vibe from Dr. Irgau from the time I went to the information session.  My date is 3/29/10...I'm soooooo excited to begin again.  To pick up where I left off before I gain these last 80lbs.

God will be with me all the way thru this....that's what I'm glad about.

God bless you and feel better.

Good Morning,

I was wondering how long ago you had your surgery?  I had mine 2 1/2 years ago.  It was done in Texas.  We just moved to Dover a  few months ago.  You are so lucky to have a doctor tha is following up with your abdominal pain.  My doctor in Texas who is supposed to be one of the best in the country, pretty much blew off my pain.  I asked about exploritory surgery and he just wanted nothing to do with it.  I went to three different doctors and no one could figure it out, and again I felt like I was just being passed from one doc to the next.  Finally a Gastro doctor put me on Bentyl, and that helps some what.  I am going to need to get set up with a WLS doctor here soon.  Sounds like your doctor would be a good one.  Where is he located?  We are on Dover AFB and they dont have one here.  Anyway, hope your pain gets better and they figure out what is going on!  Have a great day!  Michelle

Michelle,

I think a lot of us go to the Christiana Institute of Advanced Surgery, or otherwise known as CHRIAS.  There are 3 surgeons there who do the WLS and although Dr. Wynn did my surgery on September 9th of 09 I would highly reccomend Dr. Peters or Dr. Irgau as well.  The entire staff is very knowledgeable and friendly.

They are located in the Apex building in Newark, DE.  I know that's a bit of a drive for you, but I think it would be worth the trip.  I don't have the phone number ofr the office on me at the moment, but if you want it just send me a private message and I will be happy to provide it.

Hope ou are settling in well at Dover and if you ever need anything don't hesitate to contact me.

Thanks,
Kris

 Welcome!
I'm having my surgery with Dr. I on January 25th.  I really got a good vibe from him when I had my consult.  Everyone I know who has had surgery with him or are having surgery with him have had great experiences.  Are you going to have your surgery at Christiana?  Do you have your date yet?  I live in the Bear area as well - welcome to the area!  I am a transplant myself and I love Delaware!

Hi Laurie,

I'm scheduled for 3/29/10 @ Christiana.  I cannot wait.  Are you finished with your nutrition classes.  I have two more to go...one in January and one in February.
I plan to be really involved with a group and/or begin another myself in the future.  I really want to focus on staying health...I mean optimally healthy.

I'd like to hear from you again.  Maybe we can link up for strength training or some cardio at the Glasgow Park.  By the time I have surgery you'll be down considerably.  Congrats before hand....lol.

Good luck and thanks for your reply.
God Bless.

Hey, Altheda -
I have one class to go, next Friday at 8:30 AM at PMRI.  After that, I only have my clearance at PMRI and my pre-op with Dr. Irgau.  Everything is on track!  If you begin a group or join one, I'm sure that's a good move.... I have heard that the support group at Victory church on 13 is wonderful - I keep missing the meetings, though....I forget they're happening!

I would love to hook up to chat or to exercise sometime!  I love Glasgow park...it's so pretty...  I work and live mere minutes from there!  =)  The good thing about having friends who have already been through the surgery is that you have their experiences to help you cope...it's a wonderful tool.

Take good care, and God bless you as well! =)
