So I have a question that Id like to get a few  diffrent answers or some advise on this...

See I weigh 249lbs, but dont show it, so when I tell someone I am having the gastric by pass (RNY) on Jan 11th people try to talk me out of it, not that they will be able to I want this soooo bad, that no one can talk me out of this, But i dont know what to tell people, rather then I want this more then anything right now.  most people are happy for me, but I have found a few who try their best to talk me out of it, and I tell them I have debated and researched this for 3 years, and had 3 miscarriages while debating it, this is my time to do this now so i can try again in the future to be a mommy one day.

So here is what I ask.. When someone tried to talk you out of your bypass what did you tell them, besides MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS! ha ha ha ...

any help out, please

Hi Melissa,
Sometimes this is a hard  question.  I have found there are 3 types of friends.  Ones that are very supportive, ones that have a friend of a friend that had the bypass and gained all the weight back and then the ones that will try to talk you out of it. For me, I had one friend that just knew she'd be able to talk me out of it.  Once I figured out she wasn't supportive, I didn't let her bring up the subject.  I would either ignore what she said, changed the subject and finally just told her, if you're not going to support me, then I don't want to talk about my decision.  After cutting her off a few times, she finally got it!
She was and still is my best friend!  You know sometimes its a jealousy issue not a i'm concerned for your safety issue.
Good luck!
Judy

Melissa, I had several people try to talk me out of having the surgery. After I told them my true reasons for having the surgery they became supportive. Most people are not supportive out of fear or jealozy. Many people do know know what an obese person goes thru daily and never will. A true friend will support you when they realize how important it is to you. Several people in my family who didn't support my decision at first, now have had surgery themselves. Best of luck to you. See you lighter. Joanne
