So I thought I'd check out the Delaware surgery board. My RNY is in two weeks and I'm scared to death. Although I'm very comfortable since Dr. Irgau has such a great record.

Does anyone know of good support groups in the Dover area?

If you weren't scared, I would wonder if you did enough research and really thought this through :)  I was very scared before my surgery except for the actual day it happened.  I was at peace because I knew I was absolutely doing the right thing.  I just had my 4 year anniversary and I am doing well and very happy with my choice to have this surgery.  Lots of good luck and feel free to ask any questions you have.  This board is full of great advice.

Welcome to the Delaware site. If you email me your address I will email the most current Delaware support group list. [email protected].  For some reason if I cut and paste it here it distorts it.

Dr. Irgau is my DR. I can't say enough about him and the other Dr's with CHRIAS. They truely care about helping us on our journey toward better health. When you are in the hospital remember the chap stick. It will keep your lips moist. Pick a flavor you like.  Also remember to walk, sip & breathe. Keep repeating those 3 things. You'll understand after surgery.  Try to stay positive & focused and you'll do well.

Have you gotten your vitamins and any protein yet? Don't buy alot, Sometimes the taste buds change. I liked Isopure liquid  pre-op but couldn't do it post-op. I switched to the powdered Isopure, strawberry flavored, mixed with Soy milk. Then I switched to  unflavored Unjury mixed with crystal lite 3 x's a day and I still do 1 a day.  Try to follow the rules and get into good habits and you will not only loose weight and get healthy, but you will also set yourself up for the rest of your life.

Thanks for the warm welcome. I am comfortable with Dr. Irgau he performed my wife's surgery 2 years ago and she has done amazing.

I planned to use the same vitamins she does Optisource from Walgreens. It's a complete multi-vitamin for bariatric patients. PMRI now even recommends it during the Life Skills classes. I also found another one called Bariatric Fusion, I'm waiting for my NUT from PMRI to tell me yay or nay on it.

I bought a couple things of protein but not much, because of the change in taste. I hope I come to peace on the day of surgery, but right now I'm a nervous wreck.

Oh and not to mention yesterday started me on a two week pre-op Optifast diet.

We are about an hour south of you here in Rehoboth . . . Joanne runs a support group here, don't know if that's too far for you?

Unjury makes a tasteless protein powder that can be added to almost anything . . .

Good luck and keep us posted!

Unfortunately Rehobeth is a bit far away for a support group, since they most likely fall on a week night. I work in Wilmington and have to make the ridiciulous commute. Thanks for the information though.

Welcome to the board.  Things should start moving quickly for you now that you are under two weeks.  Dr. Irgau saved my life, and has been great in post-op support.  Being scared is ok, because the RNY is a life-altering event.  Having your wife's support and experience will be great for you.  Now relax!  Remember to get up and walk as soon after the surgery as possible and just keep walking, walking, walking.
Good luck to you.
