Never feel full again!
Hi everyone! i had my 1st RNY in 2006 and did well considering I had ulcers repeatedly and had several surgeries to repair them includig a vagotomy to several the vagus nerve so less acid would be relseased into my pouch. I then started gaining a little at a time, doc found a couple more ulcers and decided to do a revision and cut out the ulcerous area in april of 2008. Since then I help my 2nd post surgery weight well until about 3 months ago...when all of a sudden I started gaining weight like crazy...sometimes a pound a day. I haven't changed my eating styles and have excersized a little less due to a pinched nerve in my lumber area but not a lot. I'm really upset and not sure of what to do...call my surgeon...try eating even less (I have had a prob maintaining my vitamins and minerals already)...just call it as it is and appreciate what I've had? I've gone from 159 in Nov to 184 today..I'm not sure what to do and am getting really frustrated. I never feel full and haven;t for along time. Now I'm just feeling more and more depressed. Dr. Peters is my surgeon and I've heard from other forums that I should ask for a switch from RNY to DS even though it's complicated. I don't even know if he does this procedure. Any words or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

It almost sounds like some kind of "mechanical" failure for you to have gained so much in just a couple of months . . . I think you should contact your surgeon for further tests to see if your plumbing is still intact, or if you have a stretched stoma or some other problem. The folks over at the revisions board might be able to give you better advice!

Hang in there!
Definately make an appointment with Dr. Peters. Your success is his success, he's there to help you.
Have you had a CBC with thyroid done lately? Do you track your food intake? It's easy to let the carbs creep back into your diet. Also have you tried the 5 day pouch test? A lot of members say it gets them back on track.
Its good that you're seeking help now with a little weight gain and not after you've gained it all back. Please let us know how you make out.
Take care!

Hi Judy! Thanks for the response...I have more bloodwork done than a person would think is humanly possible! As I mentioned, my vits and mins tend to run low so I'm taking even MORE of those and getting some through injection. I haven't always been great at my food diary abut have been more and more conscious of it as the pounds started to creep back on so that's how I know I'm not eating more than 1,000-1,200 callories a day which my PCP is insisting on because of the vit and min def. I'm not familiar with the 5 day pouch test...can u explain? Thanks once again!
Here's the link for the pouch test:

Rachel, I am glad to see you posting again. Just know you are not alone. There seems to be alot of people gaining for many reasons. You know my story so I will not even go there. My throid has went wacky on me . I am trying to get it under control again. I found out recently I have nerve damage in my legs, arms, back and neck. I have been complaining to my pcp about my head being heavy for over a year and he has been telling me I am crazy. Now after going to a nerve specialist I find out I do have a problem. I am now going to physical theropy, have splints and found out I have sleep apneia. Am I falling apart or what ? I am doing the 6 months of required stuff to even be concidered for a revision. I have heard alot of positive things about the DS. There is options out there. Myself I am very confused about what option I want to take. I see the Dr. in DC today. He is recommending a revision. I am checking all options. Maybe I just need to face reality. Alot of it is me ! My choices and decisions. If I can't help myself , no one else can help me. It all comes back to me, myself and I. Anyway best of luck to you. See you lighter. Joanne
Please come to the DS board - the list of DS Revision surgeons is very short. The closest one to us is Dr. Greenbaum in Willingboro, NJ. He has an excellent reputation as a DS Revision surgeon and has been the go-to man for several of our RNY-to-DS revisions.
Feel free to ask me anything about the DS. There aren't many of us in DE!
