Okay Roll Call - Oldies but Goodies and Newbies too!

Where is everyone?  I see a few of the oldies here but not as many as when I first had the surgery.  I haven't been able to get to meetings so I don't know how everyone is doing these days.  It would be nice if you could drop in and say hi.....e-world is nice and warm...just the way I like it.

I guess I go first since I am the one creating this post.  I am still battling post herpatic neurogolia....which I have had for almost 2 years now...too many narcotics for my liking and its all because I can't take the other meds due to the RNY.  One good thing is I have lost weight - YEAH - all that stressing over a few pounds.  I will say exercise helps.  I don't do as much as I did before but I still do some.  I find my eating habits are weird these days.  I think I kicked the chocolate habit but now all I want is veggies.  Love Lima Beans......Tim has been a great supporter even on my bad pain days he is so patient and understanding.  Gotta love the man for that...he put up with me at 425 lbs. and now at 209 lbs and all drugged up he still manages to want to be around me.  I am still working which in these times is a good thing.  Looking at trying for a promotion.  I am working with some very knowledgeable people and I so enjoy learning.  The Aircraft we build and sell are awesome.  I did training on it this past year and it was a lot of fun.  So where do I go from here.  I need to get my butt in gear and get back to support groups to hear about other items to eat, how people are coping with stressors, and what they are doing for exercise.  Another learning experience I guess you could say.

So you guessed it...Yes its your turn.  Looking forward to your replies and hearing from all the people that I miss so much

Howdy Liz,

Gosh a Sleeve Gastrectomy...never heard of that one before.  Can you provide me with some details...how does that differ from RNY - is it easier on recovery?  Hopefully the first person that had the surgery will pop in to say hi as well!  That would be a nice - at least you could compare what items are happening.  That was a good thing for me with RNY - at the time I had it there were lots of people that did it before me and could help me through the process.  Although its now that I need the help and its not RNY related so its hard to find the support like I did for the RNY questions.  So how do you feel so far.  Have you run into any problems?  I am sure the downstate groups are good source for help too.  Joanne Hammond is very active in that area.

Thanks for popping in and hopefully seeing you soon.

Hi Debbie
Good to here from you. How are Ya?  The sleeve is much less invasive than RNY.  It is less recovery and all over new to the usa because the Insurance  companies are taking there time paying for it.  It does not require bypass of the intestines. Your stomach is  reduced and then removed permanently.  Hopefully I will meet someone else here.  Great to hook up up with others and there resources good and bad.
Take great care Liz

My husband's uncle had something like this when he was injuried in War efforts.  He and I could not eat much when we went out....and he was always very thin.  It was a good thing and being able to adjust to it was hard for him at the beginning he told me.  I wonder does the stomach grow back if you over eat?  They say it stretches over time.  I hope you find someone else that has had that done here for you....Its always good to have someone to chat about issues with.  I was so happy when I found the Delaware group when I had my RNY.  I was concerned I would not have people to chat about issues with....

Hi Debbie
You are right in All our efforts it it can be abused. It it designed like other surgeries to help.
So doing all that we are supposed to goes along way/  I am not struggling with adjustment. I really know why I had the surgery.  I have been very healthy all of my life .  I know that Obesity Is my Problem.  Well How are you doing?   Take good care

I am here lurking daily . . . too depressed to post, though, sorry. Having toxic family-of-origin issues that are causing me to sink slowly.

Sorry things aren't improving on the family front.  I understand that those issues can be very destructive to us.  I guess its probably one of the reasons I got as heavy as I did because I thought by being that heavy I could disappear and people would leave me alone.  I really don't think that worked but it was a good illusion for my mind.  Can you get into a therapist?  Sometimes the professional sees things that could help us defuse things for our own good.  I  do hope you find peace of mind soon.  Its not good to be in that state of mind.

Totatlly understand those times....I hope things are improving for you now.  Its hard to be you when you are dealing with other issues you cannot control as well as you would like.  Chin up and keep smilin....it all goes away one day.

Hey Deb:

Sorry to hear about your troubles. I too have had my share of pain management issues. After

fracturing my pelvic bone in two places and being out of work for over two months after just

getting a promotion in July of 2008 I thought I was going nuts because I had to take Percosets

day and night to deal with the pain. I now want to start going back to the gym so I can get ready

for my annual trip to Las Vegas. Take care and hope to see you soon.
