After 2 more fills, still feel no restrictions!!!!!

Ok.  I'm frustrated and hope you all can help.  I had a fill a few weeks ago.  After about a week I didn't feel any restriction at all and ate more than I should.  I even ate chicken salad on two pieces of toasted bread.  Something I haven't done since my surgery.  I went back and Dr. Wynn gave me a another fill this past Friday.  To date, still feel no restriction and not feeling full.  She said that it could depend on what I'm eating, maybe too soft of food or whatever, but I really don't think so.  Just like the sandwich, I eat chicken with no problem where before had trouble with it, etc.  I can't say I feel hungry, but not feeling full either.  Could it be I am just getting used to eating less and don't need to feel the restriction anymore?  Its really frustrating because I am at yet another stand-still with weight loss.  I have another appt. in 2 weeks to check in and not sure if I should get another fill or not.

The weird thing is, the amount put in at the fill a few weeks ago had to be taken out a while back because it was too tight and causing reflux.  Now I have more than that and feel like its wide open and I can eat anything.  Am I nuts?  Anyone else have this happen?

Would love to hear everyone's thoughts.

From what I understand from my banded friends, this is quite common.  Fills are different with everyone.  You've just got to give it some time and keep on your doctors about getting more fluid.  Really listen to your body and write down each and every mouthfull.  That way if you truly do not have enough restriction you can show your doctor your food log and prove that you are not in the soft food syndrome and eating around your band.  OR on the other hand it will open your eyes and show you that yes, maybe you are eating around your band and you can make the necessary adjustments.  You also have to understand that many doctors are very careful about fills.  A fill that is too tight for too long can do permanent damage to your body.

I hope this helps.  Good luck.  Sounds like you're doing really well even with the restriction you do have.

Thanks for the info.  I am definitely gonna start writing in my food diary again.  I truly don't think I'm eating more soft foods but we'll see.  I know things like chicken and bread always gave me trouble before and now I can eat them with ease.  Its weird.  I'm gonna try a good steak this weekend and see how that goes.  I've been wanting to go to a steakhouse for a while so we'll see.

Ah the elusive sweet spot!  As you lose weight the band gets looser so you need more of a fill for the band to work.. So it is not surprising that you need more now to feel restriction.  Are you following the rules.  Eating slowly, chewing well, not drinking, listening to your body for a soft stop...a burp, a sigh, a hiccup, etc.  That is when you need to stop eating, not when you feel full.  It is too late then and you will eat too much.  I have a 10cc band with about 7.5 cc's in it.  As I have had this band for 3 years, I can read it very well.  It is fickle some days and steady as you go other days.....it is a journey.

I was kind of thinking that since I've lost the weight maybe there is less fat around my stomache with may be causing this too.  Its just weird that before my last two fills, I still had a bit of restriction but felt I needed a tweek and now it feels wide open.

I definitely follow the rules although now with no restriction I have to really be concious of how much I'm eating again because the signs I got before about getting near full are no longer there.

I definitely agree, the band is definitely fickle some days.  Just part of this journey I guess.

Thanks for your input.
