Weekend check-in

How's everybody doing? I am proud to say I am still sticking to my guns with my commitment to get back on track. I dropped another pound so this morning I am "hovering" ha-ha at 173. So perhaps I will meet my Halloween goal after all. I haven't gotten any water in yet today, but I've been doing good with the food. I have banned all after-dinner snacking around here and that seems to be making a difference, too.

I had to go to downtown Millsboro today to run some errands, and I swung by the Goodwill store, found a nice chenille sweater for work. Tried on a bunch of other things, too. Clothes-shopping is a good motivator for me LOL.

I just went to the local seafood shack and treated myself to a pound of steamed shrimp. Heavenly. I swear I would eat it every day if I could afford it -- nothing but protein and it fills me up. I just had 8 oz. for lunch and am saving the other half for tonite's dinner. Yum!

OMG---I SOOO love shrimp too.  The Am-Vets has it every Saturday night...a full pound for $10 and it is cooked perfectly with old bay all up on it.  Finger lickin'...I can only eat maybe 10 or 12 pieces but we always bring it home and Ed snacks on it.  We go about once a month.

I worked today...we didn't do $300 of business all day.  I told Mark this place is a ghost town after the kids all go back to school but he wants to be open 2 more weekends to try to get rid some of the inventory we still have left.   That's his option though, and as long as I am available, I will work.  I will work tomorrow too---breakfast till noon on Sundays and we close at 3 so it'll be a short day.

Kathy, I have heard that the Amvets seafood night -- and the steak night too -- you get your money's worth. I really, really have to figure out how to get in that place LOL! It's right next door to me (Potnets Lakeside).

I paid $11 for the pound of shrimp I bought steamed and seasoned from the seafood place off Long Neck Road. The couple of times I've bought from them, they seem a bit pricey but man are they fresh and delicious.

I've decided to treat myself to a pound of shrimp every Saturday *if* I've had a good week with the food and not cheated . . . because weekends are definitely the hardest times for me to stay on track, and if I've shelled out a small fortune for shrimp that day, it will keep me from screwing up later!

BJ, Sounds like a good way to help you keep on track and do something nice for yourself too. Is the Amer- Vets open to the public ? Maybe we will have to think of this one as a group activity.  When is their steak night ? See you lighter. Joanne

If I'm not mistaken, the steak night is Friday and the seafood night is Saturday at Amvets. You can have a member sign you in, I think?

Hi Joanne,
Am-Vets is a membership only club.  Ed is a member there and I am an Auxillary member at the American Legion.  You can apply for membership using a direct relatives' military record, (husband, wife, parent or step-parent) or your own if you were enlisted.  Steak night is Friday and the shrimp is every Saturday night, both beginning at 6pm until it runs out.  The steak is a New York Strip, cooked to order and comes with potato and veggie.  $10.  You really can't beat the price for what you get.  Members can bring 4 guests I think?  I can't remember--it might be 2 guests.  Add $1.00 and get a ticket for a 32 oz. pitcher of either beer or soda.

Hey BJ,
Become a member or make friends with a member!  Ed is a member and I am with the American Legion.  There are membership dues...$25 a year I think.  You get a lot of other benefits as a member other than just getting a key card to get into the club for shrimp...LOL  See my reply to Joanne's post after yours for more about the Steak nights.  Whoever does the cooking down there is escellent because the shrimp and steak----coked to order; is perfect every dang time no matter what.  Yum-0!

BJ I wish I could do 8 oz at one time...I love shrimp!  Boil them with ole bay and I am good to go.  Although I think I can only get about 5 oz in....depends on size and how quick I eat.  I am doing pretty well with weight...finally down to the 200 lb.  I am happy to be there.  Heck I think I was okay at 220....I have to do some shopping soon.  My pants are starting to get too baggy again. I never thought I would say that again after the first 2 years.  Its nice to know the tool still works.  It definitely helps me to stay away from foods I shouldn't eat....that is the best thing about it!!!!

Life is good even with the rain!  My halloween goal is just get in the 1's!  I know I can do it.  Glad to have the support here to keep me motivated!

Deb, the only way I felt "full" was to eat those 8 oz. so fast . . . to be truthful, I could have stopped for ten minutes and eaten the other half-pound, I don't have the restriction I need. But I forced myself to cut the batch into two meals LOL.

I am glad to see your pants are getting baggier -- that is a great feeling! I am confident we will make our Halloween goals, still plenty of time.

Boil shrimp? Are you serious? Steamed is the way to go, smothered with old bay . . . LOL.
