OT, Thinking of moving to De, any advise/suggestions?

Hello everyone!

We are in the middle of selling our house here on Long Island, New York and have been considering Delaware, Thinking about Lewes and/or the surrounding towns. Currently here in NY we pay approx 265/month for electricity, 300/month heat. 325/month for car insurance.  Property taxes are 7,000.00. We're hoping that De will be less expensive to upkeep.
Any suggestions, adivse or outright HELP would be really appreciated....tell me about your state!

I think you'd be very happy here in DE.  Our beaches are beautiful.  You mentioned your utilities so here are mine.  I pay $305 for gas/ electric.  I have gas heat.   My car insurance is about $125 a month.  Our property tax is about 1/2 of what you pay now and best of all ..... NO sales tax!  I don't know your line of work but, as with everywhere right now, jobs are hard to get. As far as docs go, I go to Dr Iragau in Newark and have been very pleased.  I used to work for a new home builder down near Lewes so I know there are some nice developments.   Good luck with your search for a new home and let me be the first to say, Welcome to Delaware!

Hi Angie,

I was born and raised in Wilmington/Elsmere, DE.  It is a great state.  I saw in your reply that you would be coming down before school starts, just a little FYI, depending on the school and the area some school open at the end of this week.  Most schools in DE go back before Labor Day.  My son's first day is 8/26.

Good luck with the move, it is a great state to live in and be from.

Angie, I live in Lower Slower Delaware. Thats what everyone calls Sussex County Delaware. I have lived down here since 1990. It is nice down this end of the state but remember this is a resort area of the state. If you don't mind all the traffic, it is a wonderful place to live. Schools don't start down here until after Labor Day due to all the traffic. See you lighter. Joanne

I am interested in Lewes/Rehoboth Beach. I would like to be in a beach community, coming from Long Island.....we are surrounded! As for the traffic, I'm thinking it cant be any worse than here. I dont know if we would adapt to a place too quiet. We are taking a short trip 8/18, I cant wait...
