Glad your colonoscopy came out "clean."

About your stoma - does that mean it's enlarged?  Does your practice do Stomaphyx or ROSE or anything like that?  Is that an avenue you'd want to explore?

Missed you this morning!

Bronwen,  It does mean the stoma is enlarged.  He said mine is wide open which means your food goes right thru so you don't feel full. Dr. Fenneli is against doing the Stomaphyx because he says it only last for 1 year for most people. There is 2 possiblities at his office. Revision or Lapband over the RNY.  What is ROSE ? I haven't heard of that.  I will do lots of research before I make any decisions after I talk with the Dr. in September.  I will post tomorrow morning before I go to the gym and the outlets. See you lighter. Joanne

wow Joanne i didnt realize that could happen maybe i didnt research as well as i thought  or im confused. Is that the only reason people have revisions? I thought some people get revisions but  for different reasons.  Is your stoma being enlarged what they mean by stretching your pouch our are they different?

thanks,
Amy

Amy, Everyones pouch will stretch a little with time. You can eat a little more as time goes on but never the way you use to. The stoma is the opening from your pouch to your small intestines. It should be the size of a dime but can open up larger and your food will pass right thru and you will not feel full.  Revisions are done for many reasons. It depends on how much of your small intestine was bypassed  and the size of the pouch to even qualify for a revision. They can remove more small intestine if only a small part was removed. Different Drs remove different amounts. I will know more after my appointment in September. I will do my research before I make any decision for sure. I do know I had to see the gastorolist for 6 months before Dr. Fennelli would even talk to me about doing anything. My biggest fear is my diabetis coming back. I discused that with the Dr. today.  Hope this answers your guestion. See you lighter. Joanne

Wow.  If you decide on a true revision, do you think you'd consider an RNY to DS revision?  I haven't been participating long on the DE board to know about your weight loss or if you've had any regain, but I do see the occasional RNY to DS revision on the DS board, plus I know two people personally who have gone that route.

Would your doctor just tighten your stoma or would he revise your pouch as well, if you stuck to a straight RNY revision?

Boy, this is a lot for you to think about when you already have a load of stress in your life!

Bronwen, To update you. I had RNY on April 5,2005. I lost 148 lbs. I was 368 lbs at my highest. My lowest weight was 220 lbs. I regained about 40lbs.  I can eat anything and do not feel full. I also have bacteria over growth in my old stomach.  I will not make any  major decisions for awhile. I want to do my research after I talk with the surgeon next month. Kenny did mention revision or lab band. They do not do the realize band at that office.  I don't know much about the DS. You will have to educate me there. If he does a revision he will shorten the small intestine , adjust pouch and tighten stoma is my understanding. I am in no hurry to make any decisions. I am just checking into options at this point.. I have been working on this for over 6 months. Long before I knew my husband's health issue. I am going thru the proper steps but nothing will be done until my husband is with the Lord. He is my main concern right now.  See you lighter. Joanne
