seeking Delaware doctor and hospital

I would like to establish a relationship with a local WLS practice for postop labs and occasional followup visits. I am four years postop RNY and had my surgery done in D.C., but with gas prices the way they are going, it is not practical to travel to see my original surgeon.

If anyone is seeing their WLS practice this month, would you mind asking if they would consider taking on someone else's patient for postop care? I know some WLS surgeons do not want to take on managing someone else's patients.

Also -- reading about Vickie's death earlier this week to due intestinal blockage that was not recognized by an emergency room/hospital while she was traveling -- what DE or Eastern Shore hospitals would be the best choice to go to for a WLS-related emergency?

Thanks!

BJ, Have you tried calling Delmarva Bariatrics ?  I still travel to D.C. myself ! It is my opinion that none of the hospitals on the Eastern shore are good for bariatric emergencies. I even go to D.C. to a gastorologist. I want someone who knows what they are doing with my anatomy. Everyone should wear a medical I.D. It is sad how none of the docs in Sussex County are Bariatric nowledgeable with all the patients in the county. Good luck. See you lighter. Joanne

Hi Joanne, thanks -- I emailed the office manager at Delmarva Bariatrics to see if they'd accept another surgeon's postop patient, we'll see . . .

I don't have insurance anymore, so the next hurdle will be figuring out how to pay for it LOL!!

Im not sure what the article you are talking about can someoen tell me where i can read it??   Also I have had lots of expeience with sussex county hospitals and yeah they leave a lot to be desired in a lot of areas.  Not by any rate does thst mean the other counties are perfect.

No -- she was from Florida and was travelling (somewhere) and started to have stomach pains, the rural ER she wound up in was not versed in gastric bypass complications and I don't think they realized she had intestinal blockage until it was too late.

I was just asking about Eastern Shore facilities for my own postop followup needs, sorry if you got confused!
