I'm new
Hi,
I just found this board and was so glad to find it. I'm going through my 6 month program with Dr. Peters at Chrias. I'm hoping to be banded with the Realize band in October. I began my journey in April. It still seems like a long way off but I am determined. I've completed my nutrition classes, consult, blood work, upper gi and tomorrow I go to see the cardiologist. Next week is the pulmonologist, July is the nurse practioner and phych. August are my life skills class then Sept my pre op with Dr. Peters. My BMI is 41. I've only lost 3 pounds since I've began. I have been exerciseing but probabaly not as much as I should. I have a question...do I need to loose a certain # of pounds for the doctor to proceed? I'm trying to get more strict with my food and water in take!!!!

Hey JackieBeth,
It sounds like you are well on your way for the surgery...As for loosing enough weight, prior to surgery....I did not have to loose any weight prior to surgery, I just could not GAIN 20 pounds between my initial consultation and surgery date...Every insurance is differant...Well best of luck and welcome aboard...Dave
Hi JackieBeth, I have BC/BS of Delaware and I did not have to lose a certain amount according to my insurance, but I did have to lose 6 pounds during my life skill classes. I don't know if they still do that or not. I only lost 4 and I was afraid they were not going to "pass"...but the final doctor visit gave me the go ahead after I convinced him if I could lose the weight I wouldn't be having the surgery in the first place. Lots of good luck and please post any other questions you might have. We all had them and are here to help with whatever we can.
Ellen
Thanks for asking!
My check up went very well, by his records i'm down 99 pounds, by mine its 101 1/2 pounds.
He said I was doing great. My protein came back low, he thought maybe I was drinking my shake too fast so that it didn't have time to absorb into my system. He told me to make it in the morning and sip on it here and there to get the most out of it. Other than that, i'll see him in a year!!

Dr. Peters didn't have the results of the blood work from PMRI yet, the nutritionist called me Monday and told me it was low. Since I had the appt with him today I asked about the protein and the reasons why it was low because I am getting at least 65 gr daily. He's gonna check my labs when they get emailed to him and he said he would call me if it was a concerning level. I'll be rechecked in October for my November appt.

Jackie Beth, I can't help much with the question for I had my surgery in D.C. but I did want to welcome you to the Delaware Board. Please post often and remember we are all in this journey together. Ask away ! Thats what we are here for. Best of Luck ! I look forward to seeing you on the losers bench ,where there is always room for one more. See you lighter. Joanne
