Where is everyone
Come on guys ! This board is dying ! No matter where you are in this journey let us know. I am not working right now due to my husband's health. Fighting emotional eating daily.Where is everyone else? No matter is you are doing your best or struggling let us know. We are in this journey together and you never know who you will touch and who is going thru the same thing and fells alone in the battle. LETS POST< POST< POST !!! See you lighter. Joanne
I agree. I stop in everyday to see is happening. That takes about 2 seconds of my day. I used to be on this sight for hours....reading and answering the posts here. Just because you have already had your surgery or are still thinking about it you need to put your thought out here. We need each others support for everything....weight loss is tops but we can be there for personal needs also. It you are lurking...stop. Use up some calories to type your thought on these pages.
Thanks for the reply. I couldn't agree more. I hope no one takes this post wrong. The point is this is our board and it is going to be what we make it. I am guilty of lurking too but I am going to try to be better. I know our lives are busy. Slow down and take the time to reach out to someone else. The board is a great way to do that. It doesn't cost anything but your time. See all lighter. Joanne
I stop in here every day and get discouraged by the lack of activity as well. This board goes days and days without any new posts. I know there are people out there who need us and we need them...let's get with it!
I had some "female" menopausal issues recently that caused me to gain 14 pounds, but it quickly came back off once the issue was resolved. Yes, I panicked and cried but was assured by the gynecologist that all would be ok in the end. I had some hemmoraging that went on for almost 8 weeks...had to have a D&C, went on hormone therapy to help with the bleeding, and that is what caused the weight gain. Once I was able to stop taking the hormones, the weight fell right off. WHEW! So far, everything in that respect seems normal again. For Now. We will see what happens over the next couple of months. The doctor briefly considered hysterectomy but with my history of suture allergy, she wants to try everything else first.
I think the reason I don't post very often is because my post-op life has leveled off, with no new food or belly issues to talk about. I am back on my chewables for the extra iron, and I still monitor my protein and fluid intake. I have the occasional "bad food" binge...eating chips or sugar free cookies, but never in excess. I don't deprive myself of the things I enjoy, I just don't over do it. I have a taste of something and I'm done with it. I let my tummy tell me when, what , and how much to eat and so far it has worked for me. That -is- the part of my body that was altered so it makes sense to listen to -it-, not my head.
How is everyone else doing? Post here, even the dumbest stuff might mean something to someone else.

Kathy, I'm so glad all of that worked out. Gaining even 2 lbs is very scary. I also have the iron problem. The Dr. told me last month I am down about a pint of blood. Wednesday I am going to D.C. to get a colonostipy. Tomorrow is the prep work . I so want to get this over with. The Dr. told me they use truth serium and to stay away from my husband that day. You are doing so good as a post op. How is hubby doing post-op ? WE are going to have a clothing exchange and taste test at the oak orchard meeting on July 2nd. If you use health wise products Heather has the hook up and will be there taking orders. They are about half price . We have to order by the case and are putting orders together. Stop by and pass the word around for us. See you lighter. Joanne
Hi Joanne,
Good luck tomorrow with your colonoscopy.
My husband has done very well post-op as far as weight loss and diet are concerned, but he *is* 4 years out and although he cannot eat large amounts of food, he eats almost everything, including sugars and carbs. He can't tolerate ground beef or pasta. He does have these strange episodes from time to time, in which for no known reason, he gets completely soaked with sweat, becomes confused and disoriented, and gets very sleepy. It is weird, and when I check his blood pressure, it is always within normal range. We have an Accu-Check to check his blood sugar, but it's in a tote under the house somewhere. I'm willing to bet that these episodes are related to blood sugar. They last about 30-45 minutes and he seems fine afterward with no lasting effects. When Ed was a fat guy, he had so many health problems. He didn't drink or smoke. Since his surgery, he started back smoking and drinks every day---a couple of beers after work and more on the weekends. He sneaks in the hard liquor every day as well. I've gone around and around with him about the dangers of alcohol to a post-op due to our inability to absorb and metabolize it but he doesn't seem to care. He knows the risk he is taking with his liver and other organs, including the damage being done to his brain and he chooses to continue drinking. He's a big boy and until he decides to stop, I can't worry about it. He's not mean or violent....he just falls asleep in his chair.
I don't use any special nutritional supplements or foods. It is not affordable for me and I seem to be doing just fine with what I am doing. I just monitor the protein and fluids, and avoid things that I know are not good for me, or might make me return to my old habits. I eat alot of chicken and lean lunchmeats. Cottage cheese and yogurt, tuna, cheeses, eggs, etc. I have the occasional snack of a couple of chips or some popcorn, but a very small amount. I treat myself with Atkin's Endulge bars, which are just like candy to me. I call them my Mounds bars, Pay Day's, and Snickers. They are really good. My fiber is taken care of with granola, which I eat every day. Veggies and fruits are kept at a minimum but I enjoy a salad or the occasional banana or peach. I can't tolerate raisins alone, but can eat them in granola. As far as exercise, I don't have a program...never was into any type of regimen. I know I should walk or ride a bike, but I don't. Since my tummy tuck and breast reduction surgery, my upper abdomen is about 2 sizes larger than the lower. I have to wear either low rise jeans or stretchy waist mid rise. The waistband always rolls down, then the pants basically fall off. I need to do something about that upper tummy but with my back issues, abdominal exercises cause pain and with my heart rhythm problems, I can't do anything that raises my heart rate over 130 without being monitored.. I'm sorta stuck where I am. I can deal with it....beats the heck out of being over 300 pounds. The scales have hovered around 153-157 pounds for about 6 months now. I'll take that.
Keep us informed on your husband and yourself.
