So the difference between clear liquids pre-surgery & the liquid phase post-surgery is the protein drinks/mixes that can be used in the post-surgery phase, right?  And the difference between post-surgery liquid phase & pureed phase is that you can start to add fruit & other pureed carbs to your meals, right?  And if I'm correct, the post-surgery liquid phase can contain skim milk & creamy soups, right?  Do I got it?

I understand it as pre surgery day clear liquid phase, was like clear brothe (anything you can see through) etc...Post surgery liquid phase is any liquids, such as tomato soup, cream of cheese, broccoli etc, protein shakes..... AND the pureed phase is mashed potatoes, cream of wheat, cottage cheese etc..Best of Luck  Dave

Thank you, Dave!  The only change is that the cream of wheat can be used in the post surgery liquid phase.  I don't really understand how/why, but that's what I learned in class.  When we're talking about cream of soups, I can use store-bought Cream of Mushroom or Chicken, right?

Hi Sharon, Hope the weekend is going ok for you. Stay focused and positive. Saving you a seat on the Looser's bench.  The trouble with creamed soup is they are high in sodium with little or no nutritional value.  I got Progresso mac & bean soup, high in protein, and ran it through the blender. Makes it thicker after blending  Now mind you, you will be able to have a dinner party for 6 out of the 1 can. LOL. So invite some other newbies over or you'll be eating it for the whole week.  I added polenta to my creamed stage, with  a little gravy  & cheese on it.  Also high in protein. and my Italian fix. I also put a slice of corned beef in my chopper and put alot of russian dressing in and voila : a creamy corned beef special without the rye bread of course. Use your imagination  If you can thin it, chop it and make it creamy, you can eat it. Don't think like I did pre-surgery I'd be eating chicken broth fand grits or the rest of my life.  ((HUGS)) Elissa

Dear Elissa, Thank you for your wonderful sense of humor.  That's what's keeping me going...my sense of humor!  I understand about the sodium levels & am a "closet" nutritionist myself, having been a Type I diabetic now for 36 yrs.  In fact, my 36th diabetes anniversary is tomorrow on my surgery date!!  I was trying to find out if cream soups were ok for the liquid phase post-surgery.  I won't be able to eat the yummy Progresso until I progress into the mushy, er I mean, pureed stage, right?  I think I'm gonna have fun with the pureed stage!  At first, I was thinking baby food, but why, if I have a really nice food processor would I have to settle for baby food?  (Except, of course, the baby food fruit selections.)  I plan to be a poster child for Type I diabetics considering WLS.  I am so focused right now that nothing, not even a real Ruben sandwich will get in my way!!  Thank you for all your support!!  I really, truly do appreciate it!

Lots of good luck tomorrow.  Those of us who have been there know what you are feeling.  All will go well.  The day of my surgery was the most peaceful day I can remember.  I knew I was doing the right thing for me and my family.  As far as the puree stage, after the first few days, I ate whatever my family was eating just mushed up in the food processor.  That way I had all the same tastes I was used to.  You have to make it pretty thin at the beginning and then you can go a little thicker as the time passes.   We will be thinking about you.  Take care and G-D bless you. Hey!! I am not on the losers bench yet but I will be the 16th of this month... sooo in class I learned about the cream of wheat stuff too.. i bought some but i dunno if I will like it or not... What i bought was a bunch of those health wise things.. Did you take your classes at PMRI?? They had them there and in the store at CHRIAS... I actually really like the tomato soup and a lot of the hot chocolates....  They sell stuff at www.wlsvitamins.com  I got that site from someone on youtube... But it sounds like you got it right as far as the pre-post surgery stuff.... Clear stuff 2 days before and 2 days after and then you can put your protein shakes in there.... good luck!! Are you doing lap band or RNY??? I am doing lap band...

Yep!  I mean, yes, I'm having lapband this morning & have completed all my pre-op requirements through CHRIAS/Christiana/PMRI.  I have Dr. Peters as my surgeon.  I didn't know that I would have to do clear liquids 2 days after!  I thought I could move to regular liquids.  I'll ask today.  I probably won't feel like eating.  The only concern I actually have about the surgery is the naseau.  I'm gonna ask for Compazine, anti-naseau medicine to be fed through my I.V., if they'll do that.  I'm a little nauseous(?) right now, in fact from only drinking liquids up until midnight.  Oh well!
