Hi everyone! I have been reading the forums and came acroos an interesting one regarding insurance coverage of band fillings.  I hadn't even thought of that. Now I am wondering, before i make my final decision aboout what surgery I will have, if anyone who has blue cross blue shield of DE has had any problems with them not covering band fillings. I cannot afford $600 for each filling out of pocket and if this is the case, I may need to rethink my choice of surgeries. I would appreciate any feedback I can get on this. I am almost at the point where  I need to make the choice between lap band or bypass, although up unitl now, I was pretty sure it was going to be lap band. Thanks everyone! heidi

Best bet is to call your insurance carrier yourself and verify the coverage.  Every company is different when they negotiate their insurance coverage with BCBS.  One company may be willing to include fills as part of their coverage another may elect to exclude them.

Hi.  I have BCBSDE and Dr. Irgau did my surgery.  So far (cross my fingers/knock on wood) I have not had any problem with them paying for fills.  I know Aetna stopped paying for them so CHRIAS has started a plan that you pay $250.00 (I believe) and you get unlimited fills.   I would say first call BCBS and then call CHRIAS.  They can both help.

Whenever any of you find out the answer to this question, please post it.  There are others of us out here asking this same question.  I thought that some of the fills are incorporated in the program fee when you're using CHRIAS.  I really hadn't thought that far ahead, but I AM wondering too.

Dear Heidi, I have the answer!!  I called BC/BS of DE, PPO this morning.  They said for my particular plan, they only charge a specialist fee (my co-pay of $25.) for each fill visit.  They also told me that there are no limits.  I am a State employee, so I don't if your plan is different.
