Looking for a support group close to smyrna

Good Morning, everyone! I am desperately trying to find a support group here or near Smyrna. I don't really want to travel 40 mins, but I know that sometimes you must do what one must do. I'm originally from Philly, and moved down here in 04. My weight was very manageable, until I had a stroke in the end of 05. Then depression set in, and even though I exercised RELIGIOUSLY, walking everyday for 80 mins, plus yoga 2x a week, I started gaining weight, QUICKLY. I was also on meds that conributed to it, but now, I'm trying to get back to basics, and realized that my rny was one of the best personal gifts, except for Christ and my family, thats been given to me. I need to find a close support group. I've seen it advertised in the local paper in the past, but haven't seen it in a while. Can someone please help!! Thanks! Take care! Diana Mora

Dear Diana,  There's a support group right here IN Smyrna!  I haven't gone to it yet, since I am currently working on my lifeskills classes which conflict with the group's Thursday night schedule.  I haven't checked it out myself, but understand it's located off of Route 13, south of the Smyrna Rest Area.  This is one of the reasons that I was worried about biting off more than I could chew!!!  I live in Smyrna, but most of my appointments are up north.  I'm not all that comfortable driving at night, so I really will appreciate going to a support group up the street from where I live!

Dear Diana, FYI, I rcvd a note back from Ginger saying that they haven't met at te Smyrna Church of Christ for quite a while now.  Instead, they meet on Union Street.  I don't know where that is, but I e-mailed Ginger again to ask.  I hope it's either in Smyrna or close to it.  Sharon

Hi, Sharon!! First, I want to thank you for all the help you have given me . It has really helped. I e-mailed Ginger, and she was able to tell me that the next meeting is March 13th. Also, she said the meeting was across the street from the Smyrna fire house, so thank God!! the meeting is still around here. Dear Diana, Yes, I contacted Ginger tonight & she gave me directions.  Did your surgical team ever mention that you had to attend a specific # of support group meetings?  I remember them suggesting it as a good thing to do, but never as an obligation.  Also Ginger mentioned a sheet that patients who attend support group meetings have to get signed.  I'm going to feel like I'm seeing a probation officer then...not that I know what that feels like, but I know the ex-cons have to get their papers signed proving that they've gone to their court obligated visits.  Hmmmm.  Actually, I've been wanting to attend support meetings ever since I made the decision to have the surgery.  I am still pre-surgery, but want to hear about other peoples' experiences.  I am so glad that there will be support meetings here in Smyrna!  I've actually been counting on a friend of mine to go with me to the Lifeskills classes for the past couple of Thursday nights so that I wouldn't have to drive by myself up north.   So, maybe we'll see each other on the 13th. Hi, Sharon. when I was wls back in 2001, I lived i philly and my Doctor was, and still is, and the University of Pennsylvania Hospital. I saw him 1st, and once my date was set, I had to go to like 2 support meetings, they were at the hospital on Saturdays. I also saw a nutritionist, a psych evaluator and had all my tests done. After my surgery, I went to meetings, but they were not mandatory. Things have changed DRAMATICALLY since my time trying to get everything in, but I'm glad that people need to take more time before the surgery, because, let me tell you, it is VERY live changing. I know people that were'nt ready, and it kinda messed them up. But, all in all, it will change your life in such positive ways. I have been really getting back to basics, and one of the first things i did in the beginning, is come to the oh web site. Now, that I know for sure that there is a meeting, I will do my best to start heading to meetings, whenever I can!! Will be there for the 13th. Take care! Diana
