ok so i am totally new to the de boards but i am reaching out for help. please. im 27 and just had my consult on friday with dr wynn and was told i will be having surgery in aprox 1 month! ok that part is great! the part im having major issues with is that i have elected to have the lap band but i think i changed my mind and plan on calling dr wynn and st francis first thing monday morning (3-3-08) and having them change me to the bypass instead. i really really need to talk to someone who knows where im coming from. ALL of my friends are skinny. IM the "fat friend" so NONE of them are in anyway helpful with my concerns (to no fault of their own, theyve just never been fat) i guess what i really just need is to talk to someone before monday and just validate my desicision or mabey tell me where i may be mistaken, but mostly just to talk to someone who knows , and has mabey had the same feelings. im supposed to be attending a support group meeting in harrington on weds, but its a lapband meeting and if im not getting the lap band then that will change. has anyone else changed their mind and switched procedures? well, if anyone sees this please email me i would really really like to talk to someone asap. my email is [email protected]. my name is heather. thanks so so much to anyone who helps.

Hi Heather,   First I would like to congratulate you on your up coming surgery!!  I don't fall into the category of changing my mind, I always wanted RNY but if you need to talk or ask questions i'm out here. There are a lot of great people on the Delaware boards that can help with questions! I'm gonna email you.

first off thanks to you guys who wrote me. i really appreciate the support. i just got off the phone with dr wynn's office for the second time today and after talking to the nurse, she asked me a couple questions, pulled my chart, put me on hold and came back and said, ok i switched your procedure. nothing in the process will change so just continue with everything you already have set up. YAY!!! so if everything goes as planned i will be having bypass in about a month!!!! if their is anyone out there that has been through this or is going through the process like me and wants to chat, i would really love the support. as i said before, i dont have anyone who understands what im going through so im pretty much alone in this process and would really be more comphy with someone on my side. well just hit me up! thanks again!!!

I changed my mind at my consult.  I initially wanted a band but then the thought of having that thing under my skin for the rest of my life just skeeved me out.  Luckily my insurance covered RNY (it didn't cover the band at that time so I was going to look into self-pay).  I also didn't like the thought of having to keep getting adjustments (fill/unfill****il I get to the sweet spot (and not everyone does find that spot).  But that's just me.
