Urse Forte ?
I eveyone. I am a newbie here. My name is Wendy and I am three weeks post op from gastric bypass. My pharmacist said not to cut the pill so I have the liquid form. I wanted the pill because it would be easier for traveling. I saw some people on here say they cut their pill. What's the deal? Anyone know? Thanks for your help.
Some medications are extended release or controlled release, and should never be altered before swallowing. Doing this causes the release of the entire dose immediately and can be very dangerous. People who are post gastric bypass should not use ER/CR meds because they are designed to stay in the gut for a long period of time. Our pouch empties too quickly for us to get the full benefit of the medication, but is in there just long enough to get the side effects. Check with your pharmacist about your meds.
I do ask if they meds are time released and you are right we should not cut them if that is the case. We do have to ask the questions of what type of meds they are giving us and how will they affect us. If the Dr can prescribe liquid alternative I ask for that almost all the time. Although with my recent illness of shingles, alot of the viral meds do not come in liquid. My best advise is to be your own Dr and ask alot of questions about the meds they are prescibing for you. How they work and how they may affect you now with the smaller pouch! Thanks Kathy for bringing this up.
