Ok....I met with a new Dr. (Dr. Irgau.....I think I like the Chrias program much better) but I have a few questions...... 1.  What exactly are the pre-op PMRI meettings/classes? 2.  How long/how many do you take before they will schedule your surgery? 3.  Who does the psych consult for Chrias if you are having the surgery at Christiana?  I heard that you must go to THEIR psychologist/psychairist (spelling :( )......I already completed my consult with a Dr. that was recommended by my insurance co. ......so I don't want to spend more $ AND risk my insurance co. rejecting the consult....... Thanks!!!

Let me explain my process. I met with Dr Irgau and we both agreed on my surgery. I was given a folder with doctors to make appts with and also told to contact PMRI for the classes. The PMRI classes for me with my insurance (they didnt pay) and the type of surgery lasted for 6 straight weeks. The Psychriatrist was thru PMRI and the insurance paid for that and the other docters and sleep study test. From my first to the surgery was approximately 4 months but that depends on how soon you can get the appts and your availablity. In the mean time, research you and your surgeons WLS decision to know everything possible to open your horizons. I hope this helps you.............Sharon

Hi, The clases are three sessions. They are held in the evenings and you go to one a week. They are groups of people having the same surgery as you are. The classes cover nutrition, post -op instructions, what to expect in the hospital and right after, physical and psychological changes and some exercise tips. I found them very helpful even though I had done a lot of research on my own. There is lots of practical information and meeting others in the same boat makes you feel not as alone with your concerns. Generally it takes 3 to 6 months depending on your insurance. They all have different requirements. A few require a six month doctor supervised diet. The psychologist is at PMRI. You'll have to meet with at nurse practitioner, a nutritionist and an endochinologist too, at PMRI. And there are post-op visits. My insurance did not pay for the classes but did pick up everything except for the psychologist. I know you are anxious to get it over with. We all were. But remember, this is a big deal and you will be living with the results for the rest of your life. It's really worth it to do it right. There's an insurance section on this site by state and that can give you some really good information on what to expect from your carrier. Good luck on your journey and keep us posted. Kathy
