Still going through the motions..
Hi
I'm just checking in... I have 2 physc appts and a dietician and sleep study complete and a support group under my belt. Now I just need a follow up sleep study for apnea with a cpap machine and my 6 months documented diet completed and im ready!!! Surgary probably in July!!! I haven't lost any weight on my diet but.... I'm still going through the motions of it... Its really good to read all of your posts.. it keeps me motivated. A friend of mine told me that only 10% of WLS has sucess... I don't know if I believe it... Is it true.... ?????? I need more encouregment than that....know what I mean?

Marcie, If you follow the rules: keep a journal, go to support group mtgs, exercise, get in the required amount of protein and liquids you should have a 100% success rate. I had WLS over 3 yrs ago and I lost over 200 lbs. Just came to a stand still recently. I will start again as my body adjusts. Everyone is different. Be a sponge and get all the info you can. Take advantage and get into good healthy eating habits right away. Don't test the water to see if you will dump. Assume you will. Take advantage of your tool. No matter what you do at 1st you will loose weight. If you have developed good habits it will continue. Make it to a support group mtg and chat with others. It helps keep me focused & positive still. Some never come to any meetings, they are statictically not as successful unfortunately. Good luck and keep us updated on your progress. ((HUGS)) Elissa

10% success rate?!? What does THAT mean? If it was only 10% success then insurance companies would not cover any WLS. Sounds like your friend is NOT even close to supporting your decision. I recommend that you stay FAR away from that person. You do not need that kind of negativity right now. You keep truckin along and you'll be a SUCCESSFUL loser very soon. I am almost 2 years out and within 20# of my personal goal. Someplace I would have NEVER gotten to without my surgery. I have maintained within 5# of this weight for an entire year and consider myself a COMPLETE SUCCESS!!! 10% my AS$!!! I KNOW what I need to do to get that last 20 off (i.e. EXERCISE MORE OFTEN!!!) BUT if I never get that last 20 off I'm still wearing size 12's not the 22's I was wearing. Now tell me that's NOT a success story. Frankly, from what I've seen everyone who has been involved in the same support meeting that I've been to are ALL successful, which blows that whole 10% rate out of the water. Now quit worrying and concentrate on getting those last few appointments out of the way. Oh, and attend as many support meetings BEFORE your surgery date as you can. They are most helpful.
Marcie,
Who would put themselves through elective surgery for only a 10% chance of losing weight? That makes no sense.
This board is full of very successful WLS losers. Follow the rules your surgeon and nutritionist give you and come to the boards when you need help or support.
Sounds like you are committed to having the surgery and making it work for you. Good luck on your journey.
Kathy
