Well, I have been really irritated today. Not having any pain, nausea, or actual hunger.Having a real issue with wanting to EAT real food!!!!! I know that this is part of the process, but, I'm starting to loose it!!!! Broke down crying on my way home from the store cause I just wanted a piece of pizza. I know in the scheme of things I'm being stupid, but, I don't know how I'm gonna make it another 5 weeks. Try to have diversity in my liquids as much as possible. Hard to watch my family eat, starting to resent their ability to eat.

Awww...I know exactly how you feel; we all do. It's "head hunger." I am almost 6 months out and CAN eat regular food, but still get kind of sad that I can't eat what the family eats. I have one of those lazy susan type things in the center of my dining room table, and amongst the salt and pepper and other food spices, are 2 "before" pictures. Seeing those does it for me every time. I know I have a problem with food and never want to go back to my old eating habits, so I glance at those pictures and my feelings about the loss of my favorite yummy foods is replaced by a feeling of relief. I'm so glad I can't have that stuff anymore. I mean, I -can- have a slice of pizza, but I have to eat only the meat and cheese toppings for the protein, and because the crust makes me too full. I enjoy my diet soda (don't tell Dr. Irgau!) but not before I shake almost all of the carbonation out of it. I only drink one a week maybe and it takes me several hours to finish a 12 ounce can. During this liquid diet phase, you could try adding some herbs and spices to your broths and soups, and add cheese to your stuff too, as long as it's nicely melted. I tell ya, I have every Mrs. Dash flavor out there! Extracts are great too and you can add your favorite extract flavor to SF puddings and Jello's. My fave is Almond extract in chocolate pudding. Just a couple of drops adds that hint of Amaretto indulgence....yummy. A Jell-O favorite is raspberry/orange...instead of mixing 2 flavors, I add 4 drops of orange extract to the raspberry jello and I have another yummy in the fridge. You'll do fine! I know it! We have all been where you are and for some, numerous times---some folks have complications and have to go back and start over. Good Luck, Theresa! KathyG

I know how you feel and have been there a ''few'' times in the last 15 months with my Lap Band. What helped me was adding cheese to every soup that I have. Also on the liquids I used spaghetti sauce and added cheese. I was told anything thru a straw was liquids but not to use a straw. That helped the pizza craving. I also chewed on a straw since I missed chewing. Cream of Wheat with a extra protein powder and skim milk is over 22 grams of protein and still fills me for many hours. Mashed potatoes with extra milk to almost a liquid with cheese and or protein powder was also a change. I used and still do very small utensils, ****tail size and small bowls and plates. It is hard to change ones head hunger and I am still after all these months working on that. Hope this helps and if you have any questions please feel free to ask. Take care...Sharon

You will get thru this.. you can do it!! We have ALL been there! You should have heard me the first time I had a piece of it post op-- I was moaning at the kitchen table.. it was hysterical.. Ok Im done talking about it now!! lol... sorry! My mom had lapband 3 days after me, she made it thru. she actually started eating really soft food, and purees about 2 wks out. shhh!! she didnt have a problem, she just needs to go get another fill because she keeps getting hungry now. If you ever have any questions, or want to talk Send me a msg! Im a local girl!! Heather PS, I broke down at home when my hubby was in the kitchen cooking a cheeseburger and I wasnt able to eat real food yet. He offered to throw it away and not eat it, but I just shut myself in the office so I couldnt smell it, and came online and started reading posts on here. Oh, I also removed myself from the situation when my family ate, I let my hubby and son eat together, and I came back in after they were done to have family time.

Heather, OMG your picture is amazing. You look wonderful. I am so glad you are doing so well with your surgery. I am so happy for you. Keep up the good job. I am down 130lbs and have a couple of updated pics on my profile. I have actually had a few people tell me that I am to skinny now.... I haven't heard those words since I was a teenager and didn't know what a weight problem was. I wish you continued success. Deanna

Oh boy! Can I relate. But you really need to think of this as a time for healling. You are still post-op. Eating now could really cause problems with the band and healing. What got me through, and still does some days, is cream of wheat with protein powder, SF pudding & jello and most of all my gummy vitamins and calcium. There were days when I so looked forward to those gummies. Oh and the protein hot chocolate...yum! That was also a big help. Who cares if you have hot chocolate for dinner? It's all about the protein and fluid. When you need support head over to the lapband board. Lots of newbies over there going through the same thing. It helps to know you're not alone. Hang in there. We all struggle and get through it. You'll be fine.
