Sugar Alcohols
Hi Dave, thank alot for the post...I did email Sam and this is what he wrote me back:
Hi, Michelle.
Sugar alcohols have laxative effects! That is the short answer. Remember, prolonged diarrhea can lead to dehydration. Sugar alcohols are found in nature. They are much sweeter tasting than sugar and therefore smaller amounts need to be used. Mannitol, maltitol, sorbitol & xylitol are quite common. You may see others, as well. All sugars alcohols are named with the 'ol' on the end of the word. Sorbitol is commonly found in medication, in addition to food. If persistent diarrhea is a problem, check your meds for sorbitol content. Hope this helps! -Sam

I think that about sums it up.....I hadn't encountered any until my gf gave me a piece of sf candy, it had sugar alcohols, it was good but I wasn't sure how that would react with my pouch....I was fine, but don't want to test the limits.

I LOVE sugar Alcohols. I am Iron deficient so I double up on my iron pills every day which can bind you up. So between my SF candies and 200mg of Flax seed oil and my granola bars I just keep on movin (you know what I mean). I was told to count sugar grams AND sugar alcohol grams to get the total sugar per serving and count that.
