you're best friend just died...life goes on...LOL
I mourned chicken because post op I could not tolerate it and it caused me to dump no matter how it was prepared. I thought my best friend had died but alas, after about 6 months I was able to tolerate chicken once again . In general I did not mourn food because I came to meetings pre op and always heard comments from people about being able to eat a variety of foods but in smaller portions bu****ching out for sugar and carb contents (you will not be so focused on carb intake until further down the road when maintenance becomes key). Just try to avoid old eating habits that caused you to become obese and you will not feel like you are missing out on anything . Take care.

Hey Al,
In the first couple of weeks post-op, I missed food real bad. Textures, flavors, spices. As my body adjusted, I seemed to be more satisfied with my new eating regimen. I knew what the bad foods would do to me so I simply avoid them. The only thing I really miss is being able to eat a complete meal before it gets cold. Also, I actually "like" feeling full after just a couple of bites...it forces me to push my plate away and eat slower.
I mourn the loss of Hershey Kisses, M&M's, and a real Pepsi. I don't deprive myself though, since the only thing I experience with eating sugar is a bout of sweating and sleepiness, I do sneak in a Kiss once in a while, and when I give my granddaughter some M&M's, I always eat just one. I WILL drink a diet Pepsi(it takes me all day.) But I will never go back to my old habits. I can resist the temptation to eat that stuff because I love seeing the pounds and inches coming off more than I ever loved that food. It turns out that all of the things that bother my pouch now are the same evil things that made me obese, so it's a blessing.
