Bad news :-(
I have been having severe hip pain for the past three weeks and after going to the emergency room at Christiana Hospital I was told I had a hip strain but my gut feeling was telling me there was more to it because my leg hurt down to the bone day and night so I went to an orthopaedic specialist last night who gave me some grim news: I may be suffering from a condition called Avascular Necrosis of the femoral head which simply put means that the blood supply in the bone tissue is diminished or cut of completely and this causes the bone to die. Although the condition can be treated depending on the stage of the disease ultimitely the hip becomes arthritic and evently a hip replacement is necessary. The doctor has ordered a MRI to confirm this diagnosis but my pain and range of motion leads him to believe that this is the problem. Also, my sister who is a physical therapist told me that the area that is giving me such pain is the area that is most commonly affected by this condition. I have been living off pain medication for the past three weeks and it has greatly affected my mobility and I am spending more time at home then I have in the last two years. I am hoping that I am not in the most severe stage but if I am I will be preparing for yet a third surgery in the last two years! I am trying to stay positive but since I am in the house so much I find myself eating more than ever (haven't gained any weight yet) and I am always in the . But I am up for the fight no matter what the prognosis . I will keep the board informed of my situation. Hoping to see you all soon .
