Newbie here, consult scheduled for 12/8 Dr Wynn
I am new here. I have my first visit with Dr Wynn on 12/8. I am excited about the appointment but, there is always a but, I am really struggling with guilt the past couple of days. We got into a discussion at work about wls. A few people kept saying how it is a cop out to do it. (they don't know I am planning on surgery) I tried to defend it but, ended up walking away mad, deflated etc, etc.. Has anyone else been through this? I am sure you have but, I just had to get this off my chest. I am ready to get my life back! My husband and I want to have a family and my weight has complicated our fertility issues, I am just feeling very miserable lately. Sick and tired of being sick and tired. Anyway, any imput or words of wisdom would be great. Oh I am thinking of having gastric lapband.
Tammy, Trust me WLS is a TOOL not an easy way out! Phew WE all have had our ups and downs with the surgery. I love my Band 99.9% of the time the other time I want(head stuff) to be able to eat whatever whenever I want and with NO stopping. I am still working on that. I work my Band but I have to work with my Band too by eating the right foods, exercising anf following all of the rules also. Take care........Sharon
I think that alot of people have an opinion of things and not always the good one for that they are unsure of. Ok, so saying that you have made a decision for yourself, you've taken the next step and you are prepared to follow through! Good luck for you, I am about 1 1/2 weeks out from having my surgery now, I know for me this is the best help I can get to be the healthiest person I can be. I am not having the lap but again that is personal choice! Good luck to you and whatever you decide. These ladies and gents who have been through it here already have been a world of support and knowledge with all the questions I've had along the way.

Tammy, It's very difficult to change the opinions of many in regards to weight loss surgery. I too thought at one time that surgery was the easy way out....trust me....it's not. This is the hardest decision I have ever made in my life but one I made on my own. I chose not to tell most of my family until after surgery because I didn't want to hear their opinions. Weight loss surgery is not a magic wand. The surgery is a tool to make our journey to health possible but not without a lot of work. You still have to diet and exercise to be successful. I had lap band surgery on 10/24 and I have struggled, questioned my decision, cried, but let me tell you how many positive changes that have already occured. My blood pressure, now normal, off all meds. My snoring, completely stopped, sleeping great, waking with energy, my knees, no longer hurt when I'm climbing stairs, and before surgery, I woke 1-3 times a night to pee, no longer happening. Weight loss has been a bonus, 12 pounds pre-op and now 12 pounds post op for a total of 24 pounds. So if you ask me now 2 weeks post op would I do it again, ABSOLUTELY !!! If I never lost another pound....I'd still be happy because my health is already so much better. But I plan on losing much more. If you have any questions I can answer for you in regards to the band, let me know. Good Luck, Lisa
Okay Newbie, just think of it this way, opinions are like a@@es, and everyone has one.....I am a newbie with you too, I had my consult last month and now going through all the testing. I can not wait for my new life...It is good however to have the support at work also, one of my co-workers had the same procedure. Keep your chin up
